Align your credentials to specialty occupation standards
H-1B eligibility requires that your Instructor role qualifies as a specialty occupation, meaning a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field is normally required. Frame your degree and teaching background around curriculum development, instructional design, or a subject-matter specialty, not general education.
Target IXL roles tied to specific subject verticals
IXL builds curriculum across math, language arts, science, and Spanish. Applying to Instructor openings that match your subject expertise strengthens the specialty occupation argument your employer will need to make to USCIS when filing your H-1B petition.
Browse open Instructor roles on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters IXL Learning's Instructor openings by visa type so you can confirm sponsorship eligibility before applying. This saves time and helps you prioritize roles where your visa category is already an accepted pathway.
Clarify OPT and CPT timelines before your start date
If you're on F-1 status, confirm whether IXL's intended start date falls within your authorized OPT window. A gap between your OPT expiration and an approved H-1B can affect your ability to work, so coordinate your application timeline with your Designated School Official early.
Ask about cap-exempt filing options during the offer stage
IXL Learning is a for-profit company, so standard H-1B petitions are subject to the annual cap and lottery. During negotiations, ask whether the role could be structured through a cap-exempt institution partnership, or confirm whether premium processing is available to reduce your wait time.
Prepare a PERM-ready employment history before your first year ends
IXL sponsors EB-2 and EB-3 Green Cards for qualifying Instructors, and the PERM labor certification process requires detailed documentation of your prior positions. Gathering employment verification letters, transcripts, and official job descriptions early means you won't be scrambling when your employer initiates the process.

Find Instructor at IXL Learning JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does IXL Learning sponsor H-1B visas for Instructors?
Yes, IXL Learning sponsors H-1B visas for Instructor roles. Because IXL is a for-profit company, petitions are subject to the annual H-1B cap and the USCIS lottery. Sponsorship is more likely for roles tied to a specific subject-matter specialty where the degree requirement can be clearly justified to USCIS as a specialty occupation.
How do I apply for Instructor jobs at IXL Learning?
Applications are submitted through IXL Learning's careers page. Before applying, confirm the role lists visa sponsorship as an option, since not every Instructor opening is approved for sponsorship. Migrate Mate aggregates IXL's Instructor postings filtered by visa type, so you can quickly identify which roles match your authorization status before reaching out.
Which visa types does IXL Learning commonly use for Instructor roles?
IXL Learning sponsors H-1B, TN, J-1, and F-1 OPT and CPT for Instructor positions, and supports EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card pathways for longer-term employees. TN is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying professional categories. F-1 OPT is a common entry point for recent graduates before transitioning to H-1B sponsorship.
What qualifications does IXL Learning expect for Instructor roles?
IXL typically looks for candidates with a bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant subject area such as mathematics, language arts, science, or education. Instructional design experience, familiarity with K-12 curriculum standards, and the ability to create or evaluate adaptive learning content are common requirements. Subject-matter depth matters more than generalist teaching credentials for most of these roles.
How do I plan my timeline if IXL Learning agrees to sponsor my H-1B?
H-1B petitions can only be filed on April 1 each year for an October 1 start date, and are subject to a lottery. If you're on F-1 OPT, your OPT must cover the gap between your start date and October 1. USCIS premium processing reduces adjudication to around 15 business days once your petition is filed, which helps with planning.
