This position is responsible for the development of their staff pursuant to the culture and values set forth by JM and the local Smithfield site; ensuring the departmental culture is centered around working safely and efficiently with high levels of quality. Additionally, this position is responsible for monitoring the production of washcoat slurries and all additional activities on shift.
THE ROLE:
As a Washcoat Supervisor, you will help drive our goals by:
- Comply with all Johnson Matthey Health, Safety & Environment and Hazardous Waste procedures and local, state, and federal regulatory requirements.
- Comply with company policies.
- Grow and develop the Washcoat Engineers & Washcoat Technicians assigned to the area to handle the efficient flow of product, optimal use of raw materials, preventive and corrective actions to target zero mistakes, task completion and 100% batching quality to meet production schedules and customer product final specifications.
- Develop and administer Washcoat Engineer & Team Lead performance reviews.
- Suggest procedural and process improvements to meet the plant’s productivity and quality goals.
- Develop and implement cost reduction and EHS improvements.
- Ensure the effective utilization of raw materials.
- Support the implementation of new technologies through new procedure and training of personnel.
- Conduct specific training in areas of competency.
- Ensure that the staff in the Batching department are equipped with the means and abilities to carry out their duties daily with a high level of quality and efficiency.
- Ensure attainment (and/or efficiency) and quality goals by managing the efforts of staff reporting directly into this position. Clearly communicate the standard for the shift and hold staff appropriately accountable to the standard.
- Ensure that incoming engineers and technicians are properly trained and adhere to procedures.
- Directs and audits WCE’s and technician activities to ensure an efficient, safe, and productive operation within the established goals and objectives.
- Initiate and help develop procedures and/or equipment modifications in the batching areas to accommodate changes.
- Hold regular team meetings with his/her staff to generate ideas and ensure the proper implementation of continuous improvement efforts in the batching areas.
- Monitor product which has been quarantined to ensure proper disposition and/or timely rework.
- Assist in maintaining quality system compliance for activities/procedures pertaining to the batching areas.
- Initiate and evaluate projects geared to solving problems in the batching area and optimize the current process while adhering to the Management of Change Policy.
- Monitor and drive efforts for the continuity of the 5s program in order to ensure improvements in safety, quality and production associated with batching activities.
- Monitor shift performance results and direct shift to ensure results meet or exceed manufacturing goals.
- Responsible for monitoring and reconciling inventory variances within the batching department.
- Address any potential equipment or batching process issues that may affect or delay the batching schedule. The batching supervisor also conducts extensive troubleshooting of both process and equipment related issues.
KEY SKILLS THAT WILL HELP YOU SUCCEED IN THIS ROLE:
- Engineering or Technical degree preferred.
- 1+ years of experience as a Washcoat Engineer will be an advantage.
- Demonstrated effective leadership with proven ability to develop and motivate individuals and teams.
- Proficient PC skills including MS Office.
