Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding EHS Specialist Jobs at Kiewit Jobs
Certify your credentials before applying
Kiewit's EHS roles on energy projects typically require OSHA 30-hour certification and often a CSP or CHST credential. Have these documented and ready before outreach. Missing certifications slow offers and complicate visa timing for roles with field safety responsibilities.
Target Kiewit's project-based EHS openings
Kiewit hires EHS Specialists at the project level, meaning openings are tied to active construction contracts in energy sectors like oil and gas or power generation. Searching by region and project type surfaces roles faster than searching by job title alone.
Align your degree field with specialty occupation requirements
For H-1B sponsorship, USCIS requires the role to qualify as a specialty occupation. Degrees in occupational health, environmental science, or industrial hygiene map cleanly to EHS functions. A general studies or unrelated degree creates a harder path and may trigger a Request for Evidence.
Ask about LCA filing timing during offer negotiations
Your employer must file a certified Labor Condition Application with DOL before submitting your H-1B petition. On project-based construction roles, the prevailing wage is site-specific, so confirm the LCA covers your actual work location before signing anything.
Use Migrate Mate to filter Kiewit EHS roles by visa type
Visa sponsorship availability varies by role and project at large contractors. Use Migrate Mate to filter Kiewit's open EHS Specialist positions by the visa category you need, so you're only spending time on roles that match your current status.
Plan around H-1B cap timing if you're on OPT
If you're working at Kiewit on F-1 OPT, you have a single annual registration window in March to enter the H-1B lottery. Missing it means waiting a full year, so align your OPT extension application and STEM OPT if eligible to preserve your work authorization during the gap.

Does Kiewit sponsor H-1B visas for EHS Specialists?
Yes, Kiewit sponsors H-1B visas for EHS Specialist roles. Because these positions involve applying specialized knowledge in occupational safety and environmental compliance, they generally qualify as specialty occupations under USCIS standards. Your degree field matters here: occupational health, environmental science, or industrial hygiene backgrounds align most cleanly with H-1B requirements for this function.
How do I apply for EHS Specialist jobs at Kiewit?
Applications go through Kiewit's careers portal, where EHS roles are posted by district and project type. Roles in the energy sector are often tied to specific construction contracts, so availability shifts as projects start and close. Migrate Mate aggregates Kiewit's open EHS Specialist positions filtered by visa sponsorship type, which makes it easier to identify which openings match your status before applying.
Which visa types does Kiewit commonly use for EHS Specialist roles?
Kiewit sponsors multiple visa categories for EHS Specialists, including H-1B, TN (for Canadian and Mexican nationals), F-1 OPT and CPT for students and recent graduates, J-1 for exchange visitors, and employment-based Green Card pathways including EB-2 and EB-3. The right category depends on your citizenship, education, and where you are in your career. TN is often the fastest path for eligible Canadian nationals in qualifying EHS roles.
What qualifications does Kiewit expect for EHS Specialist roles?
Kiewit's energy sector EHS roles typically require a bachelor's degree in occupational health, environmental science, safety management, or a related technical field. Field experience on construction or industrial sites is weighted heavily, and professional certifications like OSHA 30, CSP, or CHST strengthen your profile significantly. Roles on active energy project sites often also require physical fitness standards and the ability to travel or relocate.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Kiewit EHS role?
Timeline depends on the visa type. H-1B standard processing runs three to six months after USCIS receives the petition, though premium processing can reduce USCIS adjudication to around 15 business days. TN status for Canadian nationals can be obtained at the border on the day of travel with proper documentation. For Green Card sponsorship through PERM, the full process from initial filing to approval typically spans two or more years.
