Align your credentials to Kiewit's project types
Kiewit's energy projects often involve power generation, transmission, and industrial facilities. Frame your resume around field engineering experience on heavy civil or industrial projects, not just academic credentials. Reviewers are looking for candidates who can manage construction directly.
Target roles that match your degree field
H-1B sponsorship for Construction Project Engineers requires your degree to align with the specific role. A civil engineering or construction management degree maps cleanly. A business or unrelated degree creates a specialty occupation challenge that complicates the petition from the start.
Ask about sponsorship timing during your offer conversation
Kiewit hires across cap-subject and cap-exempt contexts. If you're on OPT, confirm whether your STEM extension gives you enough runway before the H-1B cap lottery. The April registration window and October 1 start date are fixed, so your offer timing matters significantly.
Prepare your LCA documentation before the offer stage
Kiewit's project sites span multiple states, so your Labor Condition Application from DOL must reflect the correct prevailing wage for your actual work location. If your assignment moves mid-petition, a new LCA may be required before you can legally start at the new site.
Search Migrate Mate to identify open Construction Project Engineer roles
Filtering by role and visa type saves significant time when targeting employers with active sponsorship activity. Use Migrate Mate to browse current Construction Project Engineer openings at Kiewit filtered by your visa category before applying through their careers portal.
Understand that project-based roles can affect status continuity
Kiewit's work is structured around discrete projects, which sometimes means reassignments or gaps between project completions. Confirm with your employer whether your H-1B petition covers the full employment period or is tied to a specific project end date.

Find Construction Project Engineer at Kiewit JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Kiewit sponsor H-1B visas for Construction Project Engineers?
Yes, Kiewit sponsors H-1B visas for Construction Project Engineers. The role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation because it requires at minimum a bachelor's degree in civil engineering, construction management, or a closely related field. Your degree must align with the specific position. Kiewit's size and established HR infrastructure means the sponsorship process is handled internally, which is a practical advantage over smaller contractors.
Which visa types are commonly used for Construction Project Engineer roles at Kiewit?
H-1B is the most common path for Construction Project Engineers at Kiewit. F-1 OPT and CPT are used for students and recent graduates entering the role early in their career, with STEM OPT extensions available for engineering degree holders. TN visas are an option for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering classifications. Green Card sponsorship through EB-2 or EB-3 PERM is available for longer-tenured employees.
How do I apply for Construction Project Engineer jobs at Kiewit?
Applications go through Kiewit's careers portal at kiewit.com. Use Migrate Mate to browse and identify active Construction Project Engineer openings filtered by visa sponsorship before applying directly. When you apply, be specific about your visa status and work authorization needs in your application. Kiewit recruits heavily from university programs and at engineering job fairs, so campus recruiting is also a viable entry point.
What qualifications does Kiewit expect for Construction Project Engineer candidates?
Kiewit expects a bachelor's degree in civil engineering, construction management, electrical engineering, or a related discipline. Beyond the degree, they prioritize candidates with demonstrated field exposure, whether through internships, co-ops, or prior project work. Strong candidates can read construction drawings, understand project scheduling tools, and have experience working directly on job sites rather than purely in office or design environments.
How do I understand the visa sponsorship timeline for a Construction Project Engineer offer at Kiewit?
If you're on F-1 OPT, your start date needs to fall within your authorized work period. For H-1B, USCIS registration opens in March, selection is in April, and the earliest employment start date is October 1. That gap can be several months, so confirm with Kiewit's HR team whether your OPT covers the interim period. For TN visa holders, the process moves faster since there is no lottery or annual cap.
