Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Software Engineer Jobs at Kiewit Jobs
Align your stack with Kiewit's project technology
Kiewit's software teams support field operations, project controls, and asset management on energy infrastructure projects. Highlighting experience with enterprise systems, GIS platforms, or industrial software makes your profile far more relevant than general full-stack experience.
Target roles that clear specialty occupation requirements
USCIS requires H-1B roles to qualify as specialty occupations requiring a directly related bachelor's degree. Software Engineer postings at Kiewit that specify engineering systems, data pipelines, or operational technology are stronger fits than generalist titles.
Use Migrate Mate to filter Kiewit's open Software Engineer postings
Kiewit posts Software Engineer roles across multiple business units. Migrate Mate lets you filter specifically for visa-sponsoring positions at Kiewit, so you're applying to the right openings rather than sifting through roles that won't move forward with international candidates.
Raise sponsorship early in recruiter conversations
Kiewit's talent acquisition teams handle volume hiring across engineering disciplines. Confirming your visa status in the first recruiter call prevents reaching an offer stage only to find the specific business unit isn't set up to file for your category.
Prepare your credentials for PERM if you're planning long-term
Kiewit sponsors EB-2 and EB-3 Green Cards for select software roles. Foreign degree equivalency evaluations and official transcripts take weeks to obtain. Having these ready before your offer stage keeps the PERM recruitment process from stalling on your end.
Leverage CPT and OPT as an entry point into Kiewit
Kiewit participates in CPT and OPT hiring, which gives F-1 students a direct path to proving their value before any H-1B petition is needed. Joining through an internship or full-time OPT role puts you inside the company when the next H-1B cap season opens.

Find Software Engineer at Kiewit JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Kiewit sponsor H-1B visas for Software Engineers?
Yes, Kiewit sponsors H-1B visas for Software Engineer roles. The role must qualify as a specialty occupation under USCIS standards, meaning it requires a directly related bachelor's degree. Roles tied to engineering systems, operational technology, or project controls typically meet this threshold more clearly than general software positions. Confirm sponsorship eligibility with your recruiter early in the process.
How do I apply for Software Engineer jobs at Kiewit?
You can browse and apply for Software Engineer positions at Kiewit directly through their careers portal or through Migrate Mate, which filters for roles where visa sponsorship is available. When applying, tailor your resume to reflect experience with enterprise software, construction or energy technology, or field-facing systems, since those align most closely with what Kiewit's engineering teams actually build and maintain.
Which visa types does Kiewit commonly use for Software Engineer hires?
Kiewit sponsors H-1B, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, TN, J-1, and employment-based Green Cards (EB-2 and EB-3) for Software Engineer roles. TN is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering or computer science roles. F-1 OPT and CPT are common entry points for students, while H-1B and Green Card sponsorship typically follow for longer-term positions.
What qualifications does Kiewit expect for sponsored Software Engineer roles?
Kiewit generally looks for a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a closely related field. For sponsored roles, the degree field matters because it directly supports the H-1B specialty occupation determination. Experience with enterprise application development, data infrastructure, or industry-specific tools used in energy or construction projects strengthens your candidacy beyond just meeting the baseline degree requirement.
How do I time my application around the H-1B cap and OPT deadlines?
The H-1B cap registration window typically opens in March, with an October 1 start date for approved petitions. If you're on OPT, your employer needs to file your H-1B petition before your OPT expires, and STEM OPT gives you up to 24 additional months to bridge the gap. Targeting Kiewit roles in the fall or winter gives you the best runway to work through an offer and LCA before the March registration period.
