Frame your PE license strategically
Kiewit's Engineering Manager roles in energy often require or strongly prefer a Professional Engineer license. If you're foreign-educated, confirm your credentials are evaluated by a NCEES-recognized body before applying, since this affects both your candidacy and your H-1B specialty occupation determination.
Target Kiewit's energy sector business units
Kiewit operates through distinct business units covering power, oil and gas, and industrial projects. Engineering Manager openings vary significantly by unit, so filter your search by energy-specific divisions rather than applying broadly across the company.
Use Migrate Mate to surface active openings
Kiewit's Engineering Manager roles move quickly and aren't always posted on general job boards. Search Migrate Mate's visa-sponsorship-verified job board to find current openings filtered by role and sponsor history, so you're not applying blind.
Align your application timeline with H-1B cap deadlines
If you need a cap-subject H-1B, USCIS registration opens in March for an October 1 start date. Kiewit will need lead time to prepare your petition, so secure your offer and initiate the process well before registration closes.
Clarify Green Card support early in negotiations
Kiewit has sponsored EB-2 and EB-3 petitions for engineering roles, but PERM labor certification timelines can stretch beyond a year. Ask explicitly during the offer stage whether the company initiates PERM concurrently with your H-1B or after a waiting period.
Document field leadership experience in concrete terms
Kiewit's Engineering Manager positions on energy construction projects require demonstrated experience managing multidisciplinary teams and site-level execution. Translate your experience into specific project scale, team size, and deliverables, since vague management claims weaken both your application and your visa petition's specialty occupation support.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Kiewit sponsor H-1B visas for Engineering Managers?
Yes, Kiewit sponsors H-1B visas for Engineering Manager roles. The position typically qualifies as a specialty occupation given the degree requirements in engineering disciplines. If you're subject to the H-1B cap, your offer timing needs to account for USCIS's annual registration window in March and the October 1 start date. Cap-exempt situations, such as prior H-1B approvals, allow more scheduling flexibility.
How do I apply for Engineering Manager jobs at Kiewit?
Apply directly through Kiewit's careers portal, where roles are listed by business unit and location. You can also find visa-sponsorship-verified Engineering Manager openings at Kiewit through Migrate Mate, which filters postings by sponsor history. Tailor your application to the specific energy sector division, since project scope and technical requirements differ across power, oil and gas, and industrial units.
Which visa types does Kiewit commonly use for Engineering Manager roles?
Kiewit sponsors multiple visa categories for Engineering Manager positions, including H-1B for specialty occupation workers, TN visa for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering roles, F-1 OPT and CPT for recent graduates, and J-1 visa for eligible exchange visitors. For longer-term employment, Kiewit has also supported EB-2 and EB-3 immigrant visa petitions, which involve PERM labor certification filed with the DOL.
What qualifications does Kiewit expect for Engineering Manager roles?
Kiewit typically expects a bachelor's degree or higher in civil, mechanical, electrical, or a related engineering discipline, plus substantial experience managing engineering teams on large-scale energy or industrial construction projects. A Professional Engineer license is often preferred and in some roles required. Candidates with field construction experience alongside technical credentials tend to be competitive, since Kiewit's engineering leadership roles are heavily project-execution-oriented.
How do I know if my visa timeline works for an Engineering Manager offer at Kiewit?
Timeline depends on your current status. H-1B cap-subject candidates need an offer in hand before March registration, with employment starting no earlier than October 1. TN status can be obtained at the border or port of entry with an offer letter, making it faster. If you're on OPT, confirm your end date leaves enough runway for Kiewit to complete I-129 filing before your authorization expires, including any gap covered by the 60-day grace period.
