Frame your leadership experience around infrastructure scale
Kiewit's engineering teams operate on long-horizon, capital-intensive energy projects. Tailor your resume to show you've managed software teams delivering systems at that scale, not just agile product cycles in consumer tech.
Verify your visa category before applying
Kiewit sponsors multiple visa types for engineering management roles. Confirm which category fits your situation before outreach so you can speak to it confidently when hiring managers ask about your authorization timeline and filing requirements.
Target Kiewit's project-aligned business units directly
Kiewit organizes hiring around specific districts and project verticals in energy and power. Software Engineering Manager openings tied to active construction programs move faster than corporate postings, so filter by business unit when browsing roles on Migrate Mate.
Clarify H-1B cap status with your recruiter early
If you need a new H-1B, the annual cap and April lottery window directly affect your start date. Raise this in your first recruiter conversation so Kiewit's immigration team can confirm whether a cap-exempt path or a future lottery cycle applies to you.
Prepare your credential equivalency documentation upfront
Kiewit's PERM and H-1B filings for management roles require demonstrating that your degree and experience meet the specialty occupation standard. A credential evaluation from NACES-accredited evaluators strengthens your petition if your degree is from outside the U.S.
Align your offer negotiation with PERM prevailing wage timing
If Kiewit initiates a Green Card process, DOL sets a prevailing wage floor before filing. Negotiate your base salary knowing it must meet or exceed that figure throughout the PERM process or risk a refiled application.

Find Software Engineering Manager at Kiewit JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Kiewit sponsor H-1B visas for Software Engineering Managers?
Yes, Kiewit sponsors H-1B visas for Software Engineering Manager roles. The company has a consistent pattern of supporting work authorization for engineering leadership positions across its energy and infrastructure divisions. If you're subject to the annual H-1B cap, timing your application around the April lottery window is essential, so raise your visa situation early in the recruiting process.
Which visa types are commonly used for Software Engineering Manager roles at Kiewit?
Kiewit supports several visa categories for this role, including H-1B for specialty occupation workers, TN for Canadian and Mexican nationals under USMCA, F-1 OPT and CPT for recent graduates, and J-1 for qualifying exchange visitors. For longer-term paths, Kiewit also has a track record with employment-based Green Card sponsorship through EB-2 and EB-3 categories, which typically involve PERM labor certification filed with the DOL.
What qualifications and experience does Kiewit expect for Software Engineering Manager roles?
Kiewit typically expects candidates to have a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a closely related field, along with meaningful experience leading software development teams. Given the company's focus on energy and infrastructure, familiarity with enterprise systems, operational technology environments, or project-driven software delivery carries real weight. Candidates from pure product or consumer tech backgrounds should contextualize their experience around large-scale technical programs.
How do I apply for Software Engineering Manager jobs at Kiewit?
Browse current Software Engineering Manager openings at Kiewit on Migrate Mate, which filters specifically for roles open to visa sponsorship. Once you identify a match, apply directly through Kiewit's careers portal. Kiewit organizes hiring across regional districts and project verticals, so reviewing which business unit is posting can help you tailor your application to the specific team and project scope they're staffing.
How long does the visa sponsorship process typically take when joining Kiewit as a Software Engineering Manager?
Timeline depends on the visa type. H-1B transfers from another sponsor can take two to three months with USCIS standard processing, or a few weeks with premium processing. New H-1B filings are subject to the April lottery and an October 1 start date. PERM-based Green Card sponsorship runs longer, often 18 months or more from initial filing to an approved I-140, not including the priority date queue for certain nationalities.
