Frame your credentials around EPC project pursuit
Kiewit's Business Development roles center on engineering, procurement, and construction pursuits. Tailor your resume and portfolio to show direct experience with client capture strategies, proposal development, or project pipeline management in energy sectors.
Target Kiewit's energy district offices directly
Kiewit operates through regional districts with independent hiring for energy work. Applying to district-level Business Development openings, rather than only corporate postings, puts your application in front of the team actually building out client relationships in your target market.
Clarify your OPT or TN authorization timeline early
If you're on F-1 OPT, confirm your STEM extension eligibility before interviews begin. TN candidates from Canada or Mexico should verify that Business Development falls within a qualifying NAFTA/USMCA professional category, since classification can vary by role scope.
Raise H-1B sponsorship at the offer stage, not before
Kiewit evaluates sponsorship on a case-by-case basis during the offer process. Bringing it up too early can stall conversations. Once you have a verbal offer, ask directly whether the role qualifies for H-1B support and confirm the company's internal USCIS petition process.
Use Migrate Mate to filter Kiewit Business Development openings by visa type
Kiewit posts Business Development roles across multiple locations and divisions. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for positions where H-1B, TN, or OPT sponsorship is confirmed, so you spend time on openings that match your authorization status.
Prepare for PERM documentation requirements before starting
If Kiewit pursues a Green Card pathway through PERM for your Business Development role, DOL requires a formal recruitment audit showing no qualified U.S. workers were available. Keeping organized records of your qualifications, degree equivalencies, and prior employment speeds up that process significantly.

Find Business Development at Kiewit JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Kiewit sponsor H-1B visas for Business Developments?
Yes, Kiewit sponsors H-1B visas for Business Development roles where the position qualifies as a specialty occupation under USCIS standards. Sponsorship decisions are made at the offer stage and depend on the specific role scope, your qualifications, and the district hiring the position. Raising the question once you have a concrete offer in hand is the most effective approach.
Which visa types does Kiewit commonly use for Business Development roles?
Kiewit supports several visa categories for Business Development hires, including H-1B, TN for Canadian and Mexican nationals, F-1 OPT and CPT for students and recent graduates, J-1 for exchange visitors, and EB-2 or EB-3 immigrant visa pathways for longer-term Green Card sponsorship. The most appropriate category depends on your nationality, education, and employment timeline.
What qualifications does Kiewit expect for Business Development roles?
Kiewit's Business Development positions in energy typically require a background in engineering, construction management, or business with direct exposure to large capital project environments. Experience in client relationship management, proposal writing, or project pursuit within power, oil and gas, or renewable energy sectors is consistently valued. An advanced degree can strengthen both your candidacy and the H-1B specialty occupation case.
How do I apply for Business Development jobs at Kiewit?
Applications go through Kiewit's careers portal, where Business Development openings are listed by district and business unit. Because Kiewit operates across multiple energy divisions, searching by role type and region helps surface the most relevant postings. You can also use Migrate Mate to browse Kiewit's current Business Development openings filtered by visa sponsorship eligibility, which saves time if your status requires employer support.
How do I plan my timeline if I need Kiewit to file an H-1B petition for me?
H-1B cap-subject petitions must be filed with USCIS by April 1 for an October 1 start date, following a March registration lottery. If you're on OPT that expires before October, discuss a cap-gap situation or OPT STEM extension with Kiewit's HR team early. Cap-exempt filings through qualifying research or nonprofit arrangements do not follow this schedule and can be filed year-round.
