Tailor your portfolio to embedded control systems
Kiewit's energy projects rely heavily on C for SCADA, PLC integration, and real-time control software. Before applying, document specific projects where you wrote or optimized low-level C code for hardware interfaces or safety-critical systems.
Target roles on active energy infrastructure projects
Kiewit staffs C software engineers project by project, not just centrally. Roles tied to active power generation or transmission projects are more likely to include sponsorship budgets already approved by the project leadership team.
Use Migrate Mate to filter open roles by visa type
Kiewit posts C Software Engineer positions across multiple locations with varying sponsorship scope. Use Migrate Mate to browse current openings filtered specifically for visa-sponsored roles, so you're applying to positions where sponsorship is already on the table.
Prepare for USCIS specialty occupation scrutiny upfront
USCIS increasingly scrutinizes H-1B petitions for software roles. Strengthen your case by collecting documentation that ties your specific computer science or electrical engineering degree directly to the embedded systems work described in the Kiewit job posting.

Find C Software Engineer at Kiewit JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Kiewit sponsor H-1B visas for C Software Engineers?
Yes, Kiewit sponsors H-1B visas for C Software Engineer roles. Because Kiewit operates as a large employer across multiple business units, H-1B filings are handled at the enterprise level, which means sponsorship is an established process rather than a case-by-case exception. That said, individual project budgets can affect whether sponsorship is available for a specific opening, so confirm this detail with the recruiter early in the process.
Which visa types are commonly used for C Software Engineer roles at Kiewit?
H-1B is the most common visa path for C Software Engineers at Kiewit. F-1 OPT and CPT are available for students and recent graduates, and TN visas apply to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering roles. Kiewit also supports Green Card sponsorship through EB-2 and EB-3 for longer-tenured engineers, and J-1 is used in some internship or exchange contexts.
What qualifications and experience does Kiewit expect for C Software Engineer roles?
Kiewit typically expects a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, computer engineering, or electrical engineering for C Software Engineer positions. Practical experience with embedded systems, real-time operating environments, or industrial control software is weighted heavily given the energy sector context. Familiarity with SCADA systems, PLC programming, or safety-critical software standards will strengthen your application significantly over general software development experience.
How do I apply for C Software Engineer jobs at Kiewit?
You can find and apply for C Software Engineer positions at Kiewit through Migrate Mate, which lists current openings filtered by visa sponsorship eligibility. When applying, tailor your resume to highlight C programming experience relevant to infrastructure or energy systems. After submitting, expect a technical screening followed by interviews focused on systems-level problem solving and your understanding of how software integrates with physical infrastructure.
How do I plan my timeline for H-1B sponsorship at Kiewit as a C Software Engineer?
The H-1B cap registration window opens in March each year, with an October 1 start date for selected petitions. If you're on F-1 OPT, the 12-month standard period can be extended to 36 months for STEM graduates, which gives you additional runway. To avoid a gap in work authorization, you and Kiewit's immigration team need to coordinate the H-1B filing well before your OPT expiration, typically starting the process six to eight months in advance.
