Align your degree to specialty occupation standards
H-1B eligibility for construction engineering roles hinges on a direct-match degree requirement. A civil or construction engineering degree positions you cleanly. Architecture or general business backgrounds require extra documentation to meet USCIS specialty occupation criteria.
Target Sundt's self-perform project pipeline
Sundt operates as a self-perform contractor, meaning project engineers directly oversee field crews and trade work. Highlight hands-on site coordination experience in your application, not just design or administrative roles. That operational focus is what their hiring teams screen for.
Confirm OPT authorization before your start date
If you're on F-1 status, your OPT Employment Authorization Document must be approved before your first day. STEM OPT extends your window to 36 months, which covers a full H-1B cap cycle. Confirm your authorization dates align with Sundt's project onboarding timelines.
Use Migrate Mate to filter open roles by sponsorship
Browse Construction Project Engineer openings at Sundt Construction through Migrate Mate to surface roles where visa sponsorship is confirmed. This cuts out the guesswork of cold-applying to postings with no sponsorship signal.
Raise visa type early in the offer conversation
Once Sundt extends an offer, clarify which visa category they're filing under before you sign. TN status for Canadian and Mexican nationals moves faster than H-1B, and Sundt has sponsored both. Knowing the path early prevents delays in your DOL Labor Condition Application filing.
Prepare a project portfolio before interviews
Sundt evaluates project engineers on demonstrated field experience across project phases. Compile documentation of projects you've managed by type, scale, and delivery method. Concrete examples of cost tracking, subcontractor coordination, and schedule management are commonly probed in their technical interviews.

Find Construction Project Engineer at Sundt Construction JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Sundt Construction sponsor H-1B visas for Construction Project Engineers?
Yes, Sundt Construction sponsors H-1B visas for Construction Project Engineers. The role qualifies as a specialty occupation under USCIS standards given the degree requirement in civil or construction engineering. Sundt has sponsored H-1B petitions for engineering staff across its heavy civil, industrial, and building divisions, making it a legitimate target for candidates who need employer-sponsored work authorization.
How do I apply for Construction Project Engineer jobs at Sundt Construction?
You can apply directly through Sundt Construction's careers page or through Migrate Mate, which lists their open Construction Project Engineer roles and filters for visa sponsorship eligibility. When applying, tailor your resume to reflect self-perform construction experience and field coordination, since Sundt prioritizes candidates who can manage trade crews directly alongside design and administrative duties.
Which visa types does Sundt Construction use for Construction Project Engineers?
Sundt Construction sponsors H-1B, TN, J-1, and F-1 OPT and CPT visas for Construction Project Engineers. H-1B is the most common long-term path. TN is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals with a qualifying engineering degree and moves faster than H-1B. F-1 OPT and CPT are typically used for new graduates or interns entering the role before H-1B sponsorship begins.
What qualifications does Sundt Construction expect for a Construction Project Engineer?
Sundt typically looks for a bachelor's degree in civil, structural, or construction engineering. Practical experience with project scheduling, subcontractor management, cost reporting, and RFI or submittal processing is expected even at the entry level. Familiarity with self-perform construction methods is a strong differentiator, since Sundt directly employs trade labor rather than subcontracting all field work.
How do I apply for Construction Project Engineer roles at Sundt Construction?
For international applicants, timing matters significantly. If you're on F-1 OPT, your authorization window must be active when you start. H-1B sponsorship requires filing in April for an October 1 start date, so offers typically need to be in place by February or March of that year. TN status can be obtained at the border or port of entry with no advance USCIS filing, making it a faster option for eligible nationals.
