Verify your NBCOT certification before applying
MultiCare requires OTs to hold or be eligible for Washington State licensure, which means NBCOT certification is non-negotiable. Confirm your credential status and state license application timeline before submitting, since an incomplete license can stall a visa filing.
Target MultiCare's rehab and acute care units
Occupational therapy openings at MultiCare cluster in inpatient rehabilitation and acute hospital settings across Tacoma and the broader Pacific Northwest. Focusing your application on these units puts you in front of hiring managers with the most consistent staffing needs.
Ask HR directly about their preferred visa pathway
MultiCare sponsors multiple visa types for OTs, and their internal process differs by pathway. During the offer stage, ask the recruiter whether they typically file H-1B or pursue PERM-based immigrant visa sponsorship, so you understand the filing sequence before signing.
Account for H-1B cap timing in your start date
If MultiCare files an H-1B petition on your behalf, the cap-subject filing window opens in April for an October 1 start. Build at least six months of runway into your job search to avoid a gap between your OPT or current status expiring and your H-1B taking effect.
Browse open OT roles through Migrate Mate
MultiCare posts occupational therapy positions across several platforms, but filtering for sponsorship-confirmed roles saves time. Use Migrate Mate to browse current OT openings at MultiCare that have verified visa sponsorship, so you're only applying where authorization is already on the table.
Prepare specialty documentation for EB-3 PERM filing
If MultiCare pursues an EB-3 Green Card for you, DOL requires a PERM labor certification showing no qualified U.S. workers were available. Have your foreign credential evaluation, degree transcripts, and employment history organized in advance, since PERM preparation requires detailed documentation from you.

Find OT at MultiCare Health System JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does MultiCare Health System sponsor H-1B visas for OTs?
Yes, MultiCare Health System sponsors H-1B visas for occupational therapists. OT roles qualify as specialty occupations under USCIS criteria because they require at minimum a master's degree in occupational therapy. If you're on OPT or another temporary status, discuss H-1B sponsorship explicitly during the offer stage so the timeline aligns with any cap filing deadlines.
How do I apply for OT jobs at MultiCare Health System?
Applications go through MultiCare's careers portal, where you can filter by job function and location. You can also find their sponsorship-confirmed OT openings on Migrate Mate, which lets you browse roles where visa authorization is already established. Tailor your application to highlight clinical setting experience relevant to MultiCare's inpatient rehabilitation and acute care units.
Which visa types does MultiCare Health System commonly use for OT roles?
MultiCare sponsors OTs through H-1B, TN (for Canadian and Mexican nationals), F-1 OPT and CPT, J-1 exchange visitor status, and immigrant visa pathways including EB-2 and EB-3. The right pathway depends on your nationality, degree level, and long-term goals. TN is often the fastest option for Canadian OTs, while EB-3 PERM is common for those pursuing permanent residence.
What qualifications does MultiCare Health System expect for OT positions?
MultiCare expects candidates to hold a master's or doctoral degree in occupational therapy from an accredited program, along with NBCOT certification and eligibility for Washington State licensure. Clinical experience in acute care or rehabilitation settings strengthens your application significantly. International candidates should also have a foreign credential evaluation completed before the offer process begins to avoid delays.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for OTs at MultiCare?
Timeline depends on the visa pathway. H-1B cap filings take roughly six months from registration to an October 1 start date. TN status for Canadian nationals can be obtained at the border in a single day. EB-3 PERM sponsorship through DOL typically takes one to two years before a Green Card petition is filed. Plan your job search timeline around whichever pathway applies to your situation.
