Verify Your Medical Credentials Before Applying
MultiCare requires ECFMG certification for international medical graduates before any visa filing moves forward. Confirm your USMLE steps, residency documentation, and board certification status are complete and verifiable before you submit an application.
Target Specialties With Persistent Hiring Gaps
MultiCare consistently recruits in hospital medicine, psychiatry, and primary care across its Tacoma, Spokane, and Olympia facilities. Focusing your search on these specialties improves your odds of reaching a hiring manager open to sponsorship conversations early.
Browse Physician Openings Using Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter MultiCare Physician roles by visa sponsorship eligibility, so you're only spending time on positions where international candidates are actively considered rather than sorting through postings manually.
Clarify Sponsorship Scope During the Offer Stage
Before signing, confirm whether MultiCare is sponsoring only an H-1B or also committing to PERM Green Card sponsorship. Physicians often assume both are included, but the offer letter may only cover the initial nonimmigrant petition.
Understand How J-1 Waivers Affect Your Timeline
If you completed a J-1 residency or fellowship, the two-year home residency requirement applies unless you obtain a waiver. MultiCare operates in underserved areas that may qualify for Conrad 30 state waiver programs, which directly affects when H-1B or Green Card filing can begin.
Align Your Start Date With Cap Filing Windows
H-1B cap-subject petitions must be filed in April for an October 1 start date. Work backward with your recruiter at MultiCare to ensure your offer letter, LCA certification from DOL, and credentialing timeline all align with that window.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does MultiCare Health System sponsor H-1B visas for Physicians?
Yes, MultiCare Health System sponsors H-1B visas for Physicians. The organization works with immigration attorneys to manage the Labor Condition Application through DOL and the I-129 petition through USCIS. Sponsorship is typically tied to specific facility needs, so availability varies by specialty and location within the MultiCare network.
How do I apply for Physician jobs at MultiCare Health System?
You can apply directly through MultiCare's careers portal or use Migrate Mate to find Physician openings at MultiCare that are open to visa sponsorship. Before applying, confirm your ECFMG certification and state medical licensure for Washington or relevant states are in order, as MultiCare will verify these early in the recruitment process.
Which visa types does MultiCare Health System commonly use for Physician roles?
MultiCare sponsors H-1B visas most frequently for Physicians, but also supports TN visas for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying clinical roles, J-1 visa exchange visitor status for residents and fellows, and employment-based Green Card pathways including EB-2 and EB-3 for longer-term hires. F-1 OPT is less common for Physicians given the residency and licensure requirements involved.
What qualifications does MultiCare Health System expect for sponsored Physician positions?
MultiCare expects board certification or board eligibility in the relevant specialty, ECFMG certification for international medical graduates, and an active or pending Washington State medical license. For hospital-based roles, prior experience in a U.S. clinical setting is strongly preferred. Fellowship training is often required for subspecialty positions in cardiology, oncology, and other competitive areas.
How long does the visa sponsorship process typically take for Physicians at MultiCare?
For H-1B sponsorship, the process from offer acceptance to work authorization takes roughly six to nine months if the petition enters the USCIS cap lottery, with an October 1 start date. Premium processing can reduce USCIS adjudication to about 15 business days. Green Card sponsorship through PERM typically adds two to four years beyond that, depending on priority dates and country of birth.
