Verify your ECFMG certification before applying
Banner Health requires ECFMG certification for international medical graduates before extending an offer. Have your certification status confirmed and your USMLE steps completed so your application isn't stalled during credentialing review.
Target Banner Health's underserved facility locations
Banner Health operates facilities in rural and underserved areas of Arizona, Wyoming, and Colorado. Physician roles at these sites often have stronger urgency to hire and may move faster through the offer and sponsorship process than flagship urban hospitals.
Confirm specialty alignment with Banner Health's service lines
Banner Health's sponsorship activity for Physicians concentrates in specialties tied to their core service lines, including hospital medicine, primary care, and certain surgical subspecialties. Applying in a specialty where they have active recruitment signals a faster path to an offer.
Understand the H-1B timeline relative to your training end date
If you're completing a residency or fellowship, map your program end date against the H-1B cap-subject filing window in April. Missing the filing window by even a few weeks can create a gap in authorized work status.
Use Migrate Mate to identify Physician openings at Banner Health with confirmed sponsorship history
Search Migrate Mate to filter Physician roles at Banner Health by visa type. This lets you focus applications on positions where the company has an established sponsorship track record rather than guessing from a general job listing.
Ask Banner Health's recruitment team about PERM timing early
For EB-2 or EB-3 Green Card pathways, the PERM labor certification process through DOL takes months before an I-140 can be filed. Raise the question of permanent residence sponsorship during the offer negotiation phase, not after you've started.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Banner Health sponsor H-1B visas for Physicians?
Yes, Banner Health sponsors H-1B visas for Physician roles. As a large health system with hospitals and clinics across multiple states, Banner Health has an established process for filing H-1B petitions through USCIS. If you're an international medical graduate with ECFMG certification and a completed residency or fellowship, you're the profile they're actively recruiting and sponsoring.
How do I apply for Physician jobs at Banner Health?
Applications are submitted through Banner Health's careers portal, where roles are listed by specialty, location, and facility type. Before applying, confirm your ECFMG certification is active and your medical license is in order for the relevant state. You can also find Physician openings at Banner Health filtered by visa sponsorship on Migrate Mate, which helps you identify roles where sponsorship is confirmed.
Which visa types does Banner Health use to sponsor Physicians?
Banner Health sponsors Physicians on both H-1B nonimmigrant visas and employment-based immigrant visas, primarily EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card categories. H-1B is the most common starting point for international medical graduates entering clinical roles. Once employed, many Physicians work with Banner Health's legal team to begin the PERM labor certification process through DOL for permanent residence.
What qualifications does Banner Health expect for sponsored Physician roles?
Banner Health expects board certification or active board eligibility in your specialty, ECFMG certification for international medical graduates, and an active or pending state medical license. Residency or fellowship training from an ACGME-accredited program is standard. For sponsored roles, they also require J-1 waiver clearance if you completed training on a J-1 visa, which adds time to the credentialing process.
How long does the sponsorship process typically take for a Physician at Banner Health?
For H-1B, the process runs roughly three to six months from offer to start date, depending on whether premium processing is used with USCIS. For permanent residence through EB-2 or EB-3, expect 12 to 24 months or longer for PERM and I-140 before reaching adjustment of status, not counting any priority date backlog. Starting the Green Card conversation during offer negotiation shortens the overall timeline.
