Position Summary
Provides quality patient care to the medical/surgical and pediatric patients under the direction of a registered nurse.
Job Requirements
Education, Required Licenses/Certifications:
- Current New Hampshire registration as a Nursing Assistant or have completed a board approved Nursing Assistant Education Program (awaiting licensure within 120 days from program's last day of class).
- Must be CPR certified.
Work Experience, Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
- Training or experience and ongoing education specific to nursing activities regarding the pediatric, adult, and geriatric patient populations is required.
- Familiarity with computer applications required.
- Must have technical aptitude and a willingness to learn software applications used at AVH.

Essential Functions

- Provides quality patient care to the medical/surgical and pediatric patients under the direction of a registered nurse.
- Assists with admitting, discharging and transferring of patients.
- Assists with lifting, turning, moving, positioning, and transporting patients in and out of beds, chairs, bathtubs, wheelchairs, lifts, etc.
- Assists patients in ambulating with or without self-help devices, as instructed.
- Assists in preparing patients for surgery and diagnostic tests.
- Assists patients with dressing/undressing, daily dental/mouth care, bowel/bladder functions, hair/nail care, and daily bath/skin care as directed.
- Prepares patients for meals (i.e., wash hands, raise head of bed, position and clean tables, place protective coverings when needed).
- Delivers and returns food trays.
- Assists patients with feeding as needed (i.e., cutting foods, feeding, assisting impaired patients).
- Serves ice water and nourishment as instructed.
- Reports changes in eating habits to assigned nurse.
- Responds appropriately to all emergency situations.
- Records intake and output on proper document, excluding IV's, JP drains, T-tubes, and new G-J tubes.
- Collects specimens as instructed.
- Takes vital signs, oxygen saturations, accuchecks, weights, and stools for occult blood as instructed and records information in computer. Reports all changes in the patients' condition to the responsible nurse immediately.
- Assesses the patient for risk or potential of neglect or abuse. Makes referrals as appropriate.
- Reports complaints of pain to appropriate medical personnel.
- Makes beds and changes bed linens.
- Assists patients in preparing for rehabilitation activities and appointments as instructed.
- Assists with the application of slings, elastic stockings, etc. as instructed.
- Keeps the patients' call system within easy reach of the patient and answers calls promptly.
- Observes for and reports the presence of pressure areas and skin breakdowns to the responsible nurse.
- Assists with post-mortem care as instructed.
- Demonstrates technical aptitude. Is familiar with computer applications. Is willing to learn software applications.
Non-Essential Functions
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
- Maintains work area in a clean and orderly manner.

Additionally, if Weeks Medical Center is not your designated home base, you will be eligible for travel reimbursement in accordance with our standard travel policy.
