Target research-focused roles
OMRF's sponsorship activity is concentrated in scientific and biomedical research positions. Focus your applications on roles in immunology, cardiovascular science, and related lab or research functions where international sponsorship is most commonly supported.
Understand their nonprofit research environment
As a nonprofit research foundation, OMRF operates differently from commercial biotech firms. Emphasize your research contributions, publications, and scientific impact in your application, not commercial deliverables or product experience.
Know which visa types they support
OMRF sponsors H-1B, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, TN, and J-1 visas. If you're on OPT or CPT, you may be eligible to start immediately, clearly state your current status and work authorization timeline in your application materials.
Apply early relative to your OPT or status deadline
Biomedical research hiring at nonprofit institutions moves carefully. Start outreach several months before your current authorization expires to give OMRF enough time to initiate any required sponsorship paperwork on your behalf.
Highlight degree alignment with the role
H-1B specialty occupation requires a direct connection between your degree and the position. For OMRF roles, ensure your graduate-level credentials in biology, biochemistry, or a related field are clearly mapped to the specific research responsibilities listed.
Use Migrate Mate to find verified openings
OMRF doesn't always publicize sponsorship availability prominently in job listings. Migrate Mate surfaces verified sponsors so you can filter by real sponsorship history and identify OMRF openings where international candidates are genuinely considered.
