Align Your Credentials to NIH-Style Benchmarks
OMRF's research programs are heavily funded through federal grants, so your CV should highlight publications, grant involvement, and lab techniques relevant to their active disease focus areas like autoimmunity or cardiovascular biology. Peer-reviewed output carries real weight here.
Target Principal Investigators Directly
Research hiring at OMRF often flows through individual PI labs, not centralized HR. Identify investigators whose work matches your background, reach out with a targeted research statement, and ask about open positions before a formal posting goes live.
Clarify OPT and CPT Authorization Early in Interviews
If you're on F-1 status, confirm with OMRF's HR whether the role qualifies under your STEM OPT extension. Research positions in biological sciences typically meet STEM designation criteria, but you need the I-983 training plan signed before your authorization period begins.
Understand the H-1B Timeline for Research Positions
Cap-subject H-1B petitions must be filed in April for an October 1 start, so negotiate your offer timing accordingly. OMRF qualifies as a nonprofit research organization, which may make it cap-exempt. Confirm this status directly with their HR team before assuming the April cap applies to you.
Search for Open Roles Using Migrate Mate
Filter for Research openings at Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation on Migrate Mate to see current listings alongside the visa types OMRF has sponsored for similar roles. This lets you prioritize applications where your visa category aligns with their established sponsorship patterns.
Prepare Documentation for the LCA Filing Process
Before USCIS can adjudicate an H-1B petition, your employer files a Labor Condition Application with the DOL certifying prevailing wage compliance. Have your official transcripts, degree equivalency evaluations if your degree is from outside the U.S., and a detailed job duties letter ready before the petition stage begins.

Does Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation sponsor H-1B visas for Researchs?
Yes, Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation sponsors H-1B visas for Research roles. As a nonprofit biomedical research institution, OMRF may qualify as a cap-exempt H-1B employer, which would allow petitions to be filed year-round rather than only during the April cap season. Confirm cap-exempt status directly with OMRF's HR or legal team when you receive an offer, since this distinction significantly affects your start date timeline.
How do I apply for Research jobs at Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation?
Start by browsing open Research positions on OMRF's careers portal or through Migrate Mate, which aggregates roles alongside sponsorship data. Because many OMRF research openings are tied to specific PI labs, reaching out directly to investigators in your area of expertise can surface unlisted opportunities. Submit a tailored CV emphasizing relevant publications, techniques, and any federal grant experience alongside your formal application.
Which visa types does Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation commonly use for Research roles?
OMRF sponsors H-1B visas as the primary long-term work authorization path for Research positions. The foundation also supports F-1 OPT and CPT for students and recent graduates, TN visas for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying scientific occupations, and J-1 exchange visitor visas for research scholars. The right category depends on your citizenship, degree status, and how long you need authorization.
What qualifications does Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation expect for Research positions?
Most Research roles at OMRF require at minimum a Master's degree in a relevant biological or biomedical science, with Ph.D. or postdoctoral experience expected for senior or investigator-track positions. Hands-on laboratory skills in areas like flow cytometry, molecular biology techniques, or animal model research are frequently listed. Published research output and experience on federally funded projects strengthens your candidacy significantly.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Research role at OMRF?
Timeline depends on visa type. F-1 OPT authorization through USCIS takes up to 90 days, so apply to your DSO well before your program end date. H-1B petitions require DOL LCA certification first, which takes seven business days under standard processing, followed by USCIS adjudication that can take two to six months under regular processing. Premium processing reduces USCIS review to 15 business days for an additional fee.
