Tailor your credentials to quantitative research standards
JPMorganChase's research teams favor advanced degrees in economics, statistics, or finance with demonstrable modeling experience. Before applying, align your CV to reflect the specific research methodologies the team uses, such as factor modeling, credit risk analysis, or macro forecasting.
Target roles that align with your visa category
Research positions at JPMorganChase are filed under H-1B, E-3, and H-1B1 visa depending on your nationality. Identify which category applies to you before applying so you can frame your timeline expectations correctly, especially for H-1B roles subject to the annual lottery.
Search open Research roles using Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters JPMorganChase's open Research positions by the visa types they sponsor, so you can confirm sponsorship eligibility before investing time in the application process and avoid roles that don't match your immigration status.
Ask about LCA filing timelines during offer negotiation
JPMorganChase must file a Labor Condition Application with the DOL before your H-1B petition can proceed. During offer discussions, confirm when the employer plans to initiate that process, since LCA certification typically takes seven business days and is a hard dependency.
Understand how PERM affects long-term research career planning
Research roles at JPMorganChase often lead to EB-2 or EB-3 Green Card sponsorship through the PERM labor certification process. Clarify during the offer stage whether the team has a policy on initiating PERM, since timelines vary significantly by country of birth.
Prepare for specialty occupation documentation early
USCIS scrutinizes financial services research roles for specialty occupation eligibility. Gather transcripts, published work, and any evidence linking your degree field directly to your research function before the petition is filed, as requests for evidence are common in this category.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does JPMorganChase sponsor H-1B visas for Research roles?
Yes, JPMorganChase sponsors H-1B visas for Research positions. The firm is a well-established H-1B employer in the financial services sector and files petitions across research functions including quantitative analysis, economic research, and credit research. Because H-1B is subject to an annual cap and lottery, your start date will depend on selection timing and USCIS processing.
How do I apply for Research jobs at JPMorganChase?
Applications go through JPMorganChase's careers portal, where Research roles are listed by business line such as Global Research, Corporate Treasury, or Asset Management. Migrate Mate also aggregates open Research positions at JPMorganChase filtered by visa sponsorship type, which makes it easier to identify roles that match your immigration status before you apply.
Which visa types does JPMorganChase commonly use for Research positions?
JPMorganChase sponsors Research roles under H-1B for most international candidates, H-1B1 visa for Chilean and Singaporean nationals, and E-3 visa for Australian citizens. For candidates on a long-term track, the firm also supports EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card sponsorship through PERM labor certification, typically after an employee has demonstrated sustained performance in the role.
What qualifications does JPMorganChase expect for Research roles?
Most Research positions require a graduate degree in economics, finance, mathematics, statistics, or a related quantitative field. Roles in Global Research or Quantitative Research often expect PhD-level credentials or equivalent industry experience. Strong programming skills in Python or R and familiarity with financial data platforms are commonly listed as requirements across research job postings.
How do I plan my timeline if I need H-1B sponsorship for a JPMorganChase Research role?
H-1B petitions must be filed by April 1 for an October 1 start date, and selection is subject to the annual lottery. If you receive an offer but aren't selected, JPMorganChase may consider cap-exempt options or defer your start. Discuss contingency plans with your recruiter early, and factor in the DOL's LCA certification step, which must be completed before USCIS filing.
