Verify Your NBCOT Certification Before Applying
Arizona requires OTs to hold active NBCOT certification and a state license before a school district can file an H-1B petition. Get your credentials in order early, since USCIS treats licensure as part of the specialty occupation determination for OT roles.
Target School District Hiring Cycles Strategically
Peoria Unified posts OT vacancies most heavily in late spring ahead of the August school year. Applying in March or April gives you enough lead time for offer letters, LCA certification with DOL, and H-1B filing before the academic year begins.
Search Verified Sponsoring Employers on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter OT openings specifically at employers with a documented H-1B sponsorship history in education. This saves time you'd otherwise spend screening districts that don't sponsor or haven't filed for this role type before.
Understand How School Districts Handle H-1B Cap Exemptions
Public school districts like Peoria Unified are governmental entities and qualify as cap-exempt H-1B petitioners. That means you can file outside the April lottery window, which significantly reduces timing pressure compared to private-sector OT roles.
Prepare a School-Based OT Portfolio for Your Application
Peoria Unified serves students with IEPs and Section 504 plans. Document your experience writing IEP goals, conducting sensory assessments, and collaborating with special education teams. This directly maps to the specialty occupation criteria USCIS evaluates for school-based OT petitions.
Clarify Sponsorship Scope During the Offer Stage
Before signing, confirm in writing that the district will cover H-1B filing fees and whether they'll use premium processing. Some districts budget for attorney costs centrally through HR, while others require you to coordinate directly with their legal team.

Find OT at PEORIA UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does PEORIA UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT sponsor H-1B visas for OTs?
Yes, Peoria Unified School District sponsors H-1B visas for occupational therapists. As a public school district, it qualifies as a governmental entity and is cap-exempt, meaning it can file H-1B petitions year-round without going through the annual lottery. This makes the sponsorship timeline more predictable than most private employers.
How do I apply for OT jobs at PEORIA UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT?
Applications go through Peoria Unified's official HR portal, where school-based OT positions are listed by campus and specialty area. You'll typically submit a resume, proof of Arizona OT licensure, and NBCOT certification. Positions are most active in spring ahead of the new school year, so monitoring the portal from February onward gives you the best window.
Which visa types are commonly used for OT roles at PEORIA UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT?
The H-1B is the primary work visa used for OT roles at Peoria Unified. Because the district is a governmental entity, it files as a cap-exempt employer, bypassing the lottery. OTs who have already begun the Green Card process may also continue that pathway while on H-1B status, since school districts can support PERM labor certification filings.
What qualifications does PEORIA UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT expect from OT candidates?
Peoria Unified expects OTs to hold a master's degree in occupational therapy, active NBCOT certification, and an Arizona OT license. School-based experience working with pediatric populations, writing IEP goals, and conducting standardized assessments is strongly preferred. Familiarity with IDEA requirements and special education team collaboration is a practical advantage in the hiring process.
What does the H-1B sponsorship timeline look like for an OT role at PEORIA UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT?
Because Peoria Unified is cap-exempt, there's no April lottery deadline to hit. After an offer is accepted, the employer files a Labor Condition Application with DOL, which typically takes around seven business days. The H-1B petition then goes to USCIS, with standard processing taking two to four months. Premium processing reduces USCIS review to about two weeks. To browse current OT openings at sponsoring school districts, Migrate Mate filters listings by sponsorship history so you can focus your search on verified employers.
