Verify your NBCOT certification before applying
Mayo Clinic requires active NBCOT certification for OT roles. If you trained outside the U.S., confirm your credentials have been evaluated and that your state licensure is in order before submitting any application.
Target specialty rehab and neurorehabilitation postings
Mayo Clinic's OT openings cluster around complex clinical areas like neurorehabilitation, acute care, and hand therapy. Applying to roles that match a documented specialty strengthens your petition and signals fit to their sponsorship review process.
Search open OT roles on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Mayo Clinic OT postings by visa type so you only apply to roles where sponsorship aligns with your status. This saves time and surfaces openings that generic job boards don't flag for sponsorship eligibility.
Confirm your visa type fits the role's start date
Mayo Clinic's clinical OT roles often have fixed onboarding cycles tied to department staffing needs. If you're on F-1 OPT, check whether your remaining authorized period covers the expected start date before the employer files your H-1B cap-gap paperwork.
Prepare a clinical practice summary for the offer stage
Mayo Clinic's HR and legal teams use your job offer and employment documentation to support the H-1B specialty occupation determination. A concise written summary of your clinical caseload, patient population, and treatment modalities makes that filing more defensible with USCIS.

Find OT at Mayo Clinic JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Mayo Clinic sponsor H-1B visas for OTs?
Yes. Mayo Clinic sponsors H-1B visas for OT roles, and it has done so consistently across its main campuses and regional facilities. Because OT qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a relevant bachelor's degree or higher, it fits cleanly within H-1B eligibility criteria. Your employer initiates the filing, so the process starts once you have a confirmed offer.
How do I apply for OT jobs at Mayo Clinic?
Applications go through Mayo Clinic's careers portal, where OT postings are listed by site and specialty area. Read each posting carefully for licensure requirements specific to that state. Migrate Mate also aggregates Mayo Clinic OT openings and filters them by visa sponsorship type, which helps you identify roles aligned with your current immigration status before you apply.
Which visa types does Mayo Clinic commonly use for OT roles?
Mayo Clinic sponsors OTs under H-1B, TN, E-3, J-1, and F-1 OPT and CPT, as well as immigrant pathways including EB-2 and EB-3. TN is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying therapy roles. E-3 applies to Australian citizens. J-1 is typically used for clinical training placements rather than permanent employment.
What qualifications and experience does Mayo Clinic expect for OT candidates?
Mayo Clinic expects active NBCOT certification, a valid OT license in the state where the role is based, and a master's or doctoral degree in occupational therapy for most clinical positions. Specialty areas like neurorehabilitation, hand therapy, and acute care favor candidates with documented clinical hours in those settings. New graduates can be considered, but advanced practice roles require relevant post-licensure experience.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for an OT hired at Mayo Clinic?
For H-1B, the timeline depends on whether you're subject to the annual cap. Cap-subject filings are processed after the April lottery, with employment starting October 1 at the earliest. Cap-exempt situations, which may apply if you're transferring from a qualifying institution, move faster. EB-3 green card sponsorship adds PERM labor certification, which typically takes 12 to 18 months before the I-140 petition stage.
