Frame your credentials around specialty insurance markets
Ryan Specialty operates in wholesale, specialty, and casualty insurance, not retail brokerage. Tailor your resume to reflect experience in these segments, including surplus lines, program business, or managing general agent environments, before you apply.
Use Migrate Mate to filter Business Development openings
Ryan Specialty posts Business Development roles across multiple divisions and locations. Use Migrate Mate to filter confirmed visa-sponsoring positions at Ryan Specialty so you're only applying where sponsorship has been demonstrated for this function.
Secure professional designations before your interview
Insurance industry credentials like CPCU, CISR, or an Associate in Underwriting signal technical fluency in specialty lines. Candidates with these designations stand out in Business Development roles where you're expected to advise brokers and carriers on complex coverages.
Negotiate a realistic start date around H-1B timelines
If you need a new H-1B, USCIS's cap lottery typically runs in March with an October 1 start date. Discuss this window with your hiring contact early in the offer process so both sides can plan around it without losing the opportunity.
Prepare to document specialty insurance client experience clearly
For H-1B petitions in Business Development, USCIS scrutinizes whether the role qualifies as a specialty occupation. Work with your employer's immigration counsel to document how your specific duties require a degree in a field like finance, risk management, or business.

Find Business Development at Ryan Specialty JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Ryan Specialty sponsor H-1B visas for Business Developments?
Yes, Ryan Specialty has sponsored H-1B visas for Business Development roles. Because these positions sit within specialty and wholesale insurance, the company's legal team typically works with candidates to document the specialty occupation requirement. If you're already in H-1B status with another employer, a transfer to Ryan Specialty is generally smoother than a new cap-subject petition.
Which visa types does Ryan Specialty sponsor for Business Development roles?
Ryan Specialty has sponsored H-1B, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, TN, and J-1 visas for Business Development positions. F-1 OPT is a practical entry point if you're a recent graduate in finance, business, or a related field, since it lets you begin work quickly while a longer-term sponsorship pathway is arranged. TN is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying professional categories.
How do I apply for Business Development jobs at Ryan Specialty?
You can find and apply for Business Development openings at Ryan Specialty through Migrate Mate, which surfaces roles where visa sponsorship has been confirmed for this function. Ryan Specialty posts positions across divisions including Ryan Re, BinderX, and specialty practices, so filtering by role type helps you target the right team. Tailor your application to reflect wholesale or specialty insurance experience where possible.
What qualifications does Ryan Specialty expect for Business Development candidates?
Ryan Specialty typically looks for candidates with a background in insurance, finance, or risk management, combined with hands-on experience in wholesale brokerage, program business, or carrier relationship management. A bachelor's degree in a relevant field is standard, and professional designations like CPCU or CISR are competitive differentiators. Familiarity with surplus lines markets or specialty casualty lines is frequently cited in their job postings.
How do I plan my timeline around visa sponsorship when accepting an offer from Ryan Specialty?
Timeline depends heavily on your current visa status. F-1 OPT candidates can typically start within weeks of an offer. H-1B transfers for candidates already in status usually take one to three months. New cap-subject H-1B petitions follow USCIS's annual lottery cycle, with an April filing window and an October 1 start date. Clarify your status with Ryan Specialty's HR team early so they can engage immigration counsel before an offer is formally extended.
