Align Your Credentials to AI Infrastructure Roles
Scale AI's mechanical engineering work centers on hardware systems, lab equipment, and physical tooling that supports data operations. Frame your resume around precision manufacturing, systems integration, or robotics rather than traditional product development to match their actual hiring signal.
Verify Your OPT STEM Extension Eligibility Early
Scale AI falls under NAICS codes that qualify for F-1 STEM OPT extensions. Confirm your degree field is on the DHS STEM Designated Degree Program List before applying, so you can offer 36 months of work authorization without requiring immediate H-1B sponsorship.
Use Migrate Mate to Filter Scale AI Openings by Visa Type
Scale AI posts Mechanical Engineer roles across several sponsorship categories. Use Migrate Mate to filter active Scale AI openings by the visa type you hold or need, so you're only targeting roles where your authorization status is already a known fit.
Request H-1B Filing Before the April Lottery Deadline
If you're converting from OPT or another status, your employer must submit your H-1B registration with USCIS before the March deadline for an October 1 start. Confirm Scale AI's internal HR cutoff, which is typically several weeks before the USCIS window opens.
Prepare a Portfolio Showing Hardware-Software Integration Work
Scale AI evaluates mechanical engineers on their ability to work across physical and digital systems. Document projects where you designed, prototyped, or maintained equipment tied to data pipelines, sensor arrays, or automated test fixtures to stand out in technical screens.
Understand How TN Status Applies to Your Engineering Discipline
Canadian and Mexican engineers can enter on TN status if their role qualifies under the USMCA engineer classification. Confirm your specific mechanical engineering title maps to an approved TN category with DOL guidelines before negotiating your offer letter wording with Scale AI's HR team.

Find Mechanical Engineer at Scale AI JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Scale AI sponsor H-1B visas for Mechanical Engineers?
Yes, Scale AI sponsors H-1B visas for Mechanical Engineer roles. The H-1B requires your position to qualify as a specialty occupation, meaning it demands at least a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a directly related field. Scale AI's engineering roles in hardware systems and physical infrastructure typically meet this standard. Your employer files the petition with USCIS after the lottery selection each spring.
How do I apply for Mechanical Engineer jobs at Scale AI?
You can browse and apply for Mechanical Engineer positions at Scale AI through Migrate Mate, which filters open roles by visa sponsorship type so you can target listings that match your authorization status. Applications generally require a resume, and technical roles typically involve a multi-stage interview covering mechanical design, systems thinking, and hardware experience relevant to Scale AI's data infrastructure work.
Which visa types does Scale AI commonly use for Mechanical Engineer roles?
Scale AI sponsors several visa categories for Mechanical Engineers, including H-1B, E-3 for Australian citizens, TN for Canadian and Mexican nationals, F-1 OPT and CPT for students, J-1 for exchange visitors, and EB-2 or EB-3 for permanent residence pathways. The right visa depends on your nationality, degree, and the specific role's requirements. Many candidates start on OPT and transition to H-1B or another long-term category.
What qualifications does Scale AI expect from Mechanical Engineer candidates?
Scale AI generally looks for a bachelor's degree or higher in mechanical engineering or a closely related discipline. Relevant experience with hardware systems, lab or manufacturing environments, precision tooling, or sensor integration is valued given the physical infrastructure focus of the role. Familiarity with CAD software, prototyping workflows, and cross-functional collaboration with software teams strengthens your application significantly.
How do I plan my timeline if I need visa sponsorship from Scale AI?
If you're on F-1 OPT, you can typically begin work without H-1B sponsorship for up to 12 months, or up to 36 months with a STEM extension. For H-1B sponsorship, USCIS registration opens in March each year for an October 1 start date. Factor in Scale AI's internal HR submission deadlines, which typically fall weeks before the USCIS window, and allow additional time if premium processing is not elected.
