Certify Your Welding Credentials Before Applying
Healthcare facilities like Sentara Health typically require AWS certifications or equivalent trade credentials for Welder roles. Having your certifications documented and ready to present speeds up the employer's internal clearance process before sponsorship paperwork begins.
Target Sentara's Facilities and Engineering Requisitions
Sentara Health posts Welder openings under facilities management and engineering departments, not clinical operations. Filter your search by those departments so you're reaching the hiring managers who actually control trades headcount and sponsorship decisions for this role.
Use Migrate Mate to Find Active Welder Openings
Sponsorship-eligible Welder roles at healthcare employers like Sentara Health aren't always flagged clearly on general job boards. Use Migrate Mate to browse verified visa-sponsoring employers and surface Welder openings where sponsorship has already been confirmed.
Understand Which Visa Category Fits Your Situation
Sentara Health has sponsored Welders under H-1B, TN, and F-1 OPT pathways. TN is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying trades occupations. F-1 OPT lets you start working while the employer assesses fit before committing to full H-1B sponsorship.
Get Your I-9 and E-Verify Documents Organized Early
Healthcare employers are subject to strict employment eligibility requirements. Sentara Health uses E-Verify, so having your work authorization documents in order before your first day avoids delays that could jeopardize your start date or complicate the sponsorship timeline.
Plan Around the H-1B Cap and Filing Window
If your sponsorship path leads to an H-1B, USCIS opens registration each March for an October 1 start date. Confirm with Sentara Health's HR or immigration team that your offer timeline aligns with that annual cycle to avoid a gap in work authorization.

Find Welder at Sentara Health JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Sentara Health sponsor H-1B visas for Welders?
Yes, Sentara Health has sponsored H-1B visas for Welder roles. Because the H-1B requires the position to qualify as a specialty occupation, sponsorship for trades roles like welding is evaluated case by case. Sentara's in-house immigration team or external counsel typically assesses whether the specific role and your qualifications meet USCIS requirements before the employer commits to filing.
How do I apply for Welder jobs at Sentara Health?
Apply directly through Sentara Health's careers portal, filtering for facilities or engineering roles in your target region. When you reach the application, be upfront about your need for sponsorship. You can also browse verified Welder openings at Sentara Health through Migrate Mate, which surfaces roles where visa sponsorship has already been confirmed, saving you time screening positions that won't support your immigration status.
Which visa types are commonly used for Welder roles at Sentara Health?
Sentara Health has sponsored Welders under several visa categories, including H-1B, TN, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, and J-1. TN is the fastest path for Canadian and Mexican nationals in eligible trades occupations and doesn't involve a lottery. F-1 OPT is common for recent graduates already in the U.S. H-1B offers a longer-term option but is subject to USCIS's annual cap and registration lottery.
What qualifications does Sentara Health expect for Welder positions?
Sentara Health's Welder roles sit within facilities and plant operations supporting active healthcare campuses, so the expectation is typically hands-on experience with MIG, TIG, or stick welding in industrial or institutional settings. AWS certification is a strong differentiator. Because the environment is a regulated healthcare facility, familiarity with safety compliance, confined space procedures, and maintenance documentation is often expected alongside core welding skills.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Welder at Sentara Health?
Timeline depends on the visa category. TN sponsorship for eligible Canadian or Mexican nationals can be completed in days. F-1 OPT authorization through your university's DSO takes roughly three to five months to process through USCIS, so plan ahead. H-1B sponsorship follows a fixed annual cycle with USCIS, registration opens in March and employment begins October 1 at the earliest. Confirm the intended visa type with Sentara Health's HR team early so your timeline aligns with the correct process.
