Certify your welding credentials before applying
AWS certifications like CWI or structural welding certs signal competency to a healthcare employer evaluating trade roles. Having documented certifications ready speeds up the offer stage and supports your employer's LCA filing with DOL.
Target facilities maintenance postings directly
Indiana University Health hires Welders under facilities and plant operations, not clinical departments. Search those categories specifically on their careers portal so your application reaches the hiring managers who actually control sponsorship decisions for trade roles.
Browse open Welder roles using Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters Indiana University Health job listings by visa sponsorship eligibility, so you can confirm which Welder postings are open to sponsored candidates before investing time in a full application.
Understand how TN status applies to tradespeople
TN visas cover specific professional categories listed under USMCA. Welding is not a listed TN occupation, so Canadian and Mexican nationals should confirm with Indiana University Health's HR whether H-1B or an alternative category applies before assuming TN eligibility.
Clarify OPT authorization timing with your employer
If you're on F-1 OPT, confirm your work authorization end date aligns with Indiana University Health's onboarding timeline. Healthcare employers often run multi-stage background and occupational health clearances that can take several weeks, eating into your OPT window.
Ask HR whether PERM sponsorship is available for your role
Large healthcare systems sometimes offer permanent residence sponsorship through PERM for skilled trades roles experiencing sustained demand. Ask Indiana University Health's immigration contact directly whether your Welder position qualifies for EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship during the offer stage.

Find Welder at Indiana University Health JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Indiana University Health sponsor H-1B visas for Welders?
Yes, Indiana University Health has sponsored H-1B visas for roles in this function. For Welder positions specifically, the sponsorship decision typically depends on whether the role meets the H-1B specialty occupation standard, which requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent in a related field. Welding roles backed by engineering or technical degree requirements are more likely to qualify. Confirming this with HR before applying saves significant time.
How do I apply for Welder jobs at Indiana University Health?
Applications go through Indiana University Health's official careers portal, where facilities and plant operations roles are listed separately from clinical positions. Filter by location and job category to find active Welder postings. You can also browse Indiana University Health's open Welder roles filtered by visa sponsorship eligibility on Migrate Mate, which helps you identify positions open to international candidates before submitting your application.
Which visa types are commonly used for Welder roles at Indiana University Health?
Indiana University Health has sponsored workers in this function through H-1B, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, TN, and permanent residence pathways including EB-2 and EB-3. For Welder roles, H-1B and employment-based Green Card sponsorship through PERM are the most relevant for candidates seeking long-term authorization. F-1 OPT and CPT are options for recent graduates in relevant technical programs who need shorter-term work authorization during job searching.
What qualifications or experience does Indiana University Health expect for Welder roles?
Indiana University Health typically expects demonstrated proficiency with structural, MIG, or TIG welding techniques depending on the specific role, along with experience maintaining or fabricating infrastructure in regulated or commercial environments. AWS certifications strengthen your application. Because this is a healthcare system, familiarity with safety compliance standards relevant to occupied facilities, such as NFPA or Joint Commission requirements, is an advantage over candidates from purely industrial backgrounds.
How do I think about the sponsorship timeline when pursuing a Welder role at Indiana University Health?
If you're targeting H-1B sponsorship, Indiana University Health would need to file a Labor Condition Application with DOL and then submit a petition to USCIS. Standard processing runs several months, and cap-subject H-1B petitions require registration in the annual April lottery. If you're on OPT, factor in Indiana University Health's onboarding process, which can span several weeks for background checks and occupational health clearances, when calculating how much work authorization time you have remaining.
