Obtain Relevant Technical Certifications Before Applying
Healthcare facilities like IU Health prioritize candidates with certifications in biomedical equipment technology or HVAC systems. Credentials from AAMI or equivalent bodies signal job-ready competency and reduce employer hesitation around sponsoring a less-established candidate.
Research Which Service Technician Tracks IU Health Fills
IU Health operates large acute-care campuses and outpatient networks, so openings span biomedical, facilities, and clinical engineering roles. Targeting postings that align with your specialty narrows your application and signals you understand how their technical teams are structured.
Address Specialty Occupation Requirements Early in Your Resume
H-1B eligibility for Service Technician roles depends on demonstrating the position requires a specialized degree. Frame your resume around degree-linked technical knowledge, not just hands-on tasks, to support the specialty occupation argument your employer will need to make to USCIS.
Use Migrate Mate to Browse Open Roles and Filter by Visa Type
IU Health posts Service Technician openings across multiple campuses and facility types. Use Migrate Mate to filter active roles by the visa types IU Health sponsors, so you're applying to positions that are realistically within reach for your current immigration status.
Confirm the LCA Filing Reflects Your Actual Work Location
IU Health's footprint spans Indianapolis and regional campuses. DOL requires a separate Labor Condition Application for each worksite, so confirm with HR that the LCA tied to your offer covers the specific facility where you'll be based before your petition is filed.

Find Service Technician at Indiana University Health JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Indiana University Health sponsor H-1B visas for Service Technicians?
Yes, Indiana University Health sponsors H-1B visas for Service Technician roles. Because H-1B eligibility requires the position to qualify as a specialty occupation, your role will need to be framed around degree-specific technical knowledge. Biomedical and clinical engineering positions typically support this argument more clearly than general maintenance roles, so confirming the job's degree requirements before applying is worthwhile.
How do I apply for Service Technician jobs at Indiana University Health?
Applications go through IU Health's careers portal, where Service Technician roles are listed by facility and department. You can also browse open positions filtered by visa sponsorship eligibility on Migrate Mate, which helps you identify roles where your visa type is a fit before you invest time in a full application. Tailoring your application to the specific technical environment of the posting, whether clinical engineering, biomedical, or facilities, strengthens your candidacy.
Which visa types are commonly used for Service Technician roles at Indiana University Health?
IU Health supports several visa categories for Service Technicians, including H-1B for specialty occupation roles, TN for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying technical fields, and F-1 OPT and CPT for students completing relevant degree programs. For candidates pursuing permanent residence, IU Health has sponsored EB-2 and EB-3 Green Cards, typically through the PERM labor certification process filed with the DOL.
What qualifications and experience does Indiana University Health expect for Service Technician roles?
Most IU Health Service Technician postings require an associate's or bachelor's degree in biomedical equipment technology, electrical engineering, or a closely related field. Hands-on experience with medical imaging systems, patient monitoring equipment, or building management systems is commonly listed. Industry certifications such as CBET from AAMI add weight to your application, particularly for roles in clinical engineering where USCIS scrutiny on specialty occupation status is higher.
How do I understand the typical timeline for visa sponsorship at Indiana University Health?
Once you receive an offer, IU Health's HR and legal teams initiate the process, which for H-1B includes a DOL Labor Condition Application taking around seven business days, followed by USCIS petition processing. Standard processing runs several months, while premium processing through USCIS can return a decision in 15 business days. If you're on OPT, cap-gap rules may extend your work authorization while a pending H-1B petition is being adjudicated.
