Verify your CNA certification before applying
Indiana requires an active Certified Nursing Assistant credential listed on the Indiana State Department of Health registry. Confirm your certification transfers or get it endorsed before submitting applications, since IU Health's clinical hiring teams screen for this at the resume stage.
Target IU Health's high-volume hospital campuses
IU Health operates multiple hospital campuses across Indiana with frequent Nursing Assistant openings. Focus applications on Methodist, University, and North hospitals in Indianapolis, where patient volume is highest and sponsored roles rotate through most consistently.
Browse open Nursing Assistant roles on Migrate Mate
Search Migrate Mate to filter Nursing Assistant openings at IU Health by visa type. This lets you identify which specific postings are tied to sponsorship-eligible positions rather than sorting through listings that won't support your visa category.
Clarify your visa category during the offer stage
IU Health sponsors multiple visa types for Nursing Assistants, including H-1B and TN. When you receive an offer, confirm with HR which pathway applies to your situation before signing, since F-1 OPT candidates have different filing timelines than TN applicants.
Align your application timing with H-1B cap deadlines
If you need H-1B sponsorship, USCIS opens registration in March for an October 1 start date. Work backward from that window when targeting IU Health roles so your offer and petition paperwork align with the cap filing cycle.
Prepare documentation for PERM labor certification early
EB-2 and EB-3 green card paths require DOL PERM labor certification, which can take 12 to 18 months before USCIS even begins adjudicating your petition. Gather employment verification records, transcripts, and credential evaluations well before IU Health initiates the process.

Does Indiana University Health sponsor H-1B visas for Nursing Assistants?
Yes, Indiana University Health has sponsored H-1B visas for Nursing Assistant roles. As a large hospital system operating under a federal employer identification, IU Health is eligible to file H-1B petitions and has done so for clinical support staff. If you're pursuing this pathway, confirm sponsorship eligibility with IU Health's HR team during the offer stage, since not every open posting is automatically tied to H-1B sponsorship.
How do I apply for Nursing Assistant jobs at Indiana University Health?
Applications go through IU Health's careers portal at iuhealth.org/careers. Search for Nursing Assistant or Patient Care Technician roles and filter by campus location. You can also browse sponsorship-verified openings on Migrate Mate, which surfaces IU Health positions flagged for visa eligibility. Tailor your application to highlight your CNA certification, Indiana registry status, and any prior acute care or long-term care experience.
Which visa types does Indiana University Health commonly use for Nursing Assistant roles?
IU Health has used H-1B, TN, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, and employment-based immigrant visas including EB-2 and EB-3 for Nursing Assistant positions. TN is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying occupations. F-1 OPT and CPT are common entry points for students completing healthcare programs. EB-3 is the most typical green card pathway for Nursing Assistants given the skill level classification under DOL guidelines.
What qualifications does Indiana University Health expect for sponsored Nursing Assistant roles?
IU Health typically requires an active Indiana CNA certification, completion of a state-approved Nursing Assistant training program, and Basic Life Support certification. For sponsored candidates, your credential must already be valid in Indiana or actively in the endorsement process. Prior experience in hospital or acute care settings strengthens your application significantly, since IU Health's campuses operate in high-acuity environments where prior clinical exposure is valued over entry-level candidates.
How long does visa sponsorship take for a Nursing Assistant role at Indiana University Health?
Timeline depends on visa type. TN status for eligible Canadian nationals can be obtained at the border in a single day. H-1B standard processing runs three to five months after USCIS receives the petition, with an October 1 start date if cap-subject. EB-3 green card sponsorship through PERM labor certification adds 12 to 18 months of DOL processing before USCIS adjudication begins. F-1 OPT authorizations typically take two to three months from USCIS receipt of the EAD application.
