Verify your clinical credentials transfer correctly
Nursing Assistant certifications vary by state. Before applying, confirm your CNA or equivalent credential meets Colorado's Department of Regulatory Agencies requirements, since the University of Colorado will expect state-compliant certification before extending any offer.
Target university hospital postings separately
University of Colorado Health and the main university campus post Nursing Assistant roles through different portals. Applying through UCHealth's careers site versus the university's HR system reaches distinct hiring managers, so search both to avoid missing active openings.
Ask explicitly about sponsorship during screening
University hiring coordinators handle visa questions through a central international office, not individual hiring managers. Ask during your initial phone screen whether the specific department has budget approval for sponsorship on that requisition, not just whether the university sponsors generally.
Understand which visa fits your clinical role
Nursing Assistant positions typically qualify under TN status for Canadian and Mexican nationals or H-1B for specialty occupations. If the role requires only a certificate rather than a bachelor's degree, confirm with the international office which category they intend to file under before accepting.
Time your application around academic hiring cycles
University of Colorado ramps up clinical support hiring ahead of fall semester starts and during summer when student populations shift. Submitting applications between March and June improves your chances of reaching a hiring manager with open headcount and sponsorship budget already approved.
Browse open Nursing Assistant roles on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters University of Colorado job postings by visa sponsorship type, so you can identify which Nursing Assistant openings are currently active and sponsorship-eligible without manually screening listings that don't support international candidates.

Find Nursing Assistant at University of Colorado JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does University of Colorado sponsor H-1B visas for Nursing Assistants?
Yes, University of Colorado sponsors H-1B visas, and Nursing Assistant roles can qualify when the position meets the specialty occupation standard, typically requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a related field. However, not every Nursing Assistant posting will automatically trigger H-1B sponsorship. The university's international office reviews each role individually, so you should confirm sponsorship intent with the hiring department before advancing through the interview process.
How do I apply for Nursing Assistant jobs at University of Colorado?
Applications go through the University of Colorado's official careers portal at cu.edu/jobs, where you filter by job category and location. Some clinical roles are posted through UCHealth rather than the main university system, so check both. You'll submit a resume, complete any required assessments, and indicate your work authorization status. Migrate Mate also aggregates these postings and flags which ones include visa sponsorship, making it faster to identify the right openings.
Which visa types does University of Colorado commonly use for Nursing Assistant roles?
University of Colorado files across several visa categories depending on the candidate's background and the role's requirements. H-1B is common for positions framed as specialty occupations. TN visas are available for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying nursing roles. F-1 OPT and CPT support students completing clinical training programs. J-1 is used for exchange visitors in specific academic or training contexts. The appropriate category depends on your degree level, nationality, and the role's official classification.
What qualifications does University of Colorado expect for Nursing Assistant positions?
Most postings require current Colorado CNA certification or eligibility to sit for the state exam, along with Basic Life Support certification. Some roles within specialized units, such as oncology or surgical support, expect prior acute care experience. A high school diploma or equivalent is the baseline educational requirement, though roles tied to H-1B sponsorship may be structured to require a higher credential to meet USCIS specialty occupation standards.
How do I plan my timeline if I need visa sponsorship for a Nursing Assistant role at University of Colorado?
Build in at least three to six months from offer acceptance to start date if H-1B sponsorship is involved, since USCIS processing times vary and premium processing adds cost the employer must agree to cover. For TN visas, Canadian nationals can often begin in weeks. F-1 OPT requires your DSO to authorize employment before your start date, which typically takes two to three weeks after you submit the request. Confirm the employer's preferred visa category early so timelines don't conflict with your current status expiration.
