Credential Your Nursing Licensure Before Applying
Colorado requires RN licensure through the NCLEX-RN. If your nursing degree is from outside the U.S., get a credentials evaluation from a CGFNS-approved organization before submitting applications, since HR will confirm licensure eligibility early in screening.
Target Clinical Roles Tied to Academic Units
University of Colorado posts Clinical Nurse openings across hospital, student health, and research clinic settings. Roles attached to academic or research units often have more flexibility on sponsorship because the hiring department has access to institutional immigration support resources.
Understand TN Eligibility If You Hold Canadian or Mexican Citizenship
Registered Nursing is a designated TN profession under USMCA. If you qualify, TN status can be obtained at a port of entry without waiting for USCIS processing, which gives you a faster path to a start date than H-1B petitions require.
Ask HR About PERM Timeline Before Accepting an Offer
If you need a Green Card pathway, ask directly whether the department supports PERM-based EB-3 sponsorship. DOL PERM processing can take over a year before an I-140 is even filed, so confirming the university's willingness early prevents a mismatch in expectations.
Use Migrate Mate to Filter Open Positions by Visa Type
Search for University of Colorado Clinical Nurse roles filtered by your specific visa category on Migrate Mate, so you focus only on active openings where your status is a confirmed fit rather than applying broadly and waiting for screening to clarify.
Align Your Application Timing With the H-1B Cap Calendar
If your role requires a cap-subject H-1B, USCIS registration opens in March with an October 1 start date at the earliest. Coordinate your offer letter and I-129 filing timeline with the university's immigration counsel well in advance of the registration window.

Find Clinical Nurse at University of Colorado JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does University of Colorado sponsor H-1B visas for Clinical Nurses?
Yes. University of Colorado sponsors H-1B visas for qualifying Clinical Nurse positions. As a higher education institution, the university may file H-1B petitions that are cap-exempt, meaning USCIS can process them outside the annual lottery. This is a meaningful advantage for nurses who missed the general cap or need to start sooner than October 1.
How do I apply for Clinical Nurse jobs at University of Colorado?
Applications go through the University of Colorado's central careers portal, where Clinical Nurse postings are listed by campus and unit. You can also browse active openings filtered by visa sponsorship type on Migrate Mate. Tailor your application to the specific clinical environment listed, whether that is student health, hospital, or research, since hiring teams differ by unit.
Which visa types does University of Colorado commonly use for Clinical Nurse roles?
The university sponsors H-1B, TN, J-1, F-1 OPT, and F-1 CPT for Clinical Nurse roles, as well as immigrant visa pathways including EB-2 and EB-3 for longer-term candidates. TN is available to Canadian and Mexican citizens without a lottery. J-1 is typically used for exchange or training contexts. The right category depends on your citizenship, degree, and career timeline.
What qualifications does University of Colorado expect for Clinical Nurse positions?
Most postings require an active Colorado RN license, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), and clinical experience in a relevant specialty. International applicants with nursing degrees earned outside the U.S. should complete a CGFNS credential evaluation before applying. Some senior or specialty roles require additional certifications such as BLS, ACLS, or specialty board credentials depending on the unit.
How do I think about timing when targeting a sponsored Clinical Nurse role at University of Colorado?
If you need H-1B sponsorship, account for USCIS registration in March and an October start date, which means initiating contact with HR several months ahead of when you need to start. For OPT candidates, the 60-day grace period between jobs creates real urgency. For PERM-based Green Card sponsorship, DOL processing alone can run one to two years, so that conversation needs to happen at the offer stage, not after onboarding.
