Credential Your Clinical Hours for U.S. Standards
University of Colorado hiring managers for Medical Assistant roles look for documented hands-on clinical experience. Get your foreign training records translated and evaluated by a NACES-approved credential service before you apply, so nothing slows down the offer stage.
Target Campus Clinic Postings Separately
University of Colorado posts Medical Assistant openings across its hospital system and its on-campus student health and primary care clinics. The campus clinic roles often move faster through hiring and are more familiar with F-1 OPT and CPT authorization, so filter your search accordingly.
Confirm Your OPT Work Authorization Covers the Start Date
If you're on F-1 OPT, your Employment Authorization Document must be valid on your first day of work. University of Colorado uses E-Verify, so any gap between your start date and EAD validity will block onboarding. Align your OPT application timeline with the expected offer date.
Understand the H-1B Specialty Occupation Threshold for This Role
USCIS requires H-1B positions to qualify as specialty occupations, and Medical Assistant roles can face scrutiny. Ask the University's HR team early how they document the degree requirement for this specific posting before assuming H-1B is the pathway.
Use Migrate Mate to Filter Active University of Colorado Openings
University of Colorado lists Medical Assistant positions across multiple departments and campuses at different times. Use Migrate Mate to surface active openings filtered by visa sponsorship eligibility so you're applying to live roles, not outdated listings.
Ask HR to Clarify the PERM Timeline Before Accepting an Offer
If you're targeting a Green Card through an EB-2 or EB-3 pathway, University of Colorado HR will need to run PERM labor certification through DOL before filing. That process takes months, so get a clear timeline in writing at the offer stage, not after you've already started.

Find Medical Assistant at University of Colorado JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does University of Colorado sponsor H-1B visas for Medical Assistants?
University of Colorado does sponsor H-1B visas, but Medical Assistant roles face additional scrutiny under USCIS specialty occupation rules, which require the position to normally require at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field. Whether a particular Medical Assistant posting qualifies depends on how the University documents the role's degree requirement. Confirm this directly with their HR or immigration team before assuming H-1B is available for the specific position you're applying to.
How do I apply for Medical Assistant jobs at University of Colorado?
Applications go through University of Colorado's central jobs portal. Search for Medical Assistant openings by campus or department, as positions are spread across the hospital system and on-campus clinics. You can also use Migrate Mate to browse active Medical Assistant openings at University of Colorado filtered specifically for roles open to visa sponsorship, which saves time compared to manually reviewing each posting.
Which visa types does University of Colorado commonly use for Medical Assistant roles?
University of Colorado works across several visa categories for healthcare support roles. F-1 OPT and CPT are common entry points for recent graduates, particularly in campus clinic settings. J-1 is used in training and exchange contexts. For longer-term employment, H-1B is available where the role meets specialty occupation criteria, and EB-2 or EB-3 Green Card pathways are supported through PERM labor certification for qualifying staff.
What qualifications and experience does University of Colorado expect for Medical Assistant roles?
University of Colorado typically expects a Medical Assistant certificate or associate's degree from an accredited program, along with Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) credentials. Clinical practicum hours are closely reviewed. For international applicants, foreign training records should be formally evaluated before applying. Roles in specialty clinics, such as oncology or pediatrics, may require additional demonstrated experience in that area.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Medical Assistant position at University of Colorado?
Timeline depends on the visa type. F-1 OPT authorization through USCIS takes up to 90 days to process, so apply early relative to your graduation date. H-1B petitions are subject to the annual April lottery and October 1 start dates, meaning a role offered in early spring may not begin for six months or more. PERM-based Green Card sponsorship adds a DOL labor certification process that typically runs several additional months before the USCIS petition stage begins.
