Align Your Credentials Before Applying
UT Southwestern's clinical roles require state-recognized Medical Assistant credentials. Confirm your CMA or RMA certification is current and that your foreign academic transcripts are evaluated by a NACES-approved service before submitting any application.
Target Clinic-Specific Postings Strategically
UT Southwestern operates dozens of outpatient clinics across the Dallas area, each posting Medical Assistant roles independently. Filter by department rather than browsing broadly to find openings that align with your specialty background and visa timeline.
Browse Open Roles Through Migrate Mate
Medical Assistant openings at UT Southwestern fill quickly and vary by clinic. Use Migrate Mate to filter for current visa-sponsoring roles at the institution, so you're applying to positions where sponsorship is already confirmed.
Clarify Sponsorship Early in Interviews
Ask directly during your first interview whether the specific clinic or department has sponsored the role before. Academic medical centers like UT Southwestern often process sponsorships through central HR, but department-level familiarity with the H-1B or E-3 process varies.
Account for LCA Filing in Your Start Date
Your employer must file a certified Labor Condition Application with the DOL before USCIS can process your H-1B petition. At large institutions this step adds two to four weeks to your timeline, so build that into your expected start date when negotiating.

Find Medical Assistant at UT Southwestern Medical Center JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does UT Southwestern Medical Center sponsor H-1B visas for Medical Assistants?
Yes, UT Southwestern Medical Center sponsors H-1B visas for Medical Assistant roles. As a large academic medical institution, it processes sponsorship through a centralized HR and immigration team, which gives candidates more consistency than smaller clinical employers. Your role still needs to qualify as a specialty occupation under USCIS guidelines, so confirming degree requirements for the specific posting is essential before applying.
How do I apply for Medical Assistant jobs at UT Southwestern Medical Center?
Applications go through UT Southwestern's official careers portal, where postings are listed by department and clinic location. Read each job description carefully for credential requirements, as some postings specify preferred certifications. You can also use Migrate Mate to browse current Medical Assistant openings at UT Southwestern filtered by visa sponsorship eligibility, which saves time if you need confirmed sponsorship before applying.
Which visa types are commonly used for Medical Assistant roles at UT Southwestern Medical Center?
H-1B is the most common long-term sponsorship path for Medical Assistants at UT Southwestern. F-1 OPT and CPT are also supported, making the institution accessible to international students completing clinical programs. Australian citizens may qualify for the E-3 visa, and TN status is available for Canadian and Mexican nationals whose roles meet the relevant occupational categories under USMCA.
What qualifications does UT Southwestern Medical Center expect from Medical Assistant candidates?
UT Southwestern typically expects a Medical Assistant diploma or associate degree from an accredited program, along with a CMA, RMA, or equivalent certification. Clinical experience in a patient-facing environment is strongly preferred. For international applicants, a credential evaluation from a NACES-approved agency is required to confirm that foreign education meets U.S. equivalency standards before HR will advance your application.
How do I plan my timeline if I need visa sponsorship to start a Medical Assistant role?
If you're pursuing H-1B sponsorship, factor in DOL Labor Condition Application certification, which takes two to four weeks, before USCIS processes the petition. Regular H-1B processing adds several additional months, though premium processing can reduce USCIS adjudication to around 15 business days. Coordinate closely with UT Southwestern's HR team on your target start date to avoid gaps between your current work authorization and petition approval.
