Verify your NCLEX and credential equivalency early
UT Southwestern requires Texas RN licensure before you start. If you trained outside the U.S., get your credentials evaluated through a CGFNS-approved service and submit your NCLEX application to the Texas Board of Nursing well before you begin interviewing.
Target unit-specific RN postings on their careers site
UT Southwestern posts nursing roles by specialty unit, including ICU, oncology, and surgical floors tied to its academic programs. Applying to units that align with your clinical background increases your odds of reaching a hiring manager who can escalate a sponsorship request.
Use Migrate Mate to filter open RN roles by visa type
UT Southwestern lists multiple active Registered Nurse openings at any given time. Use Migrate Mate to filter those roles by the visa category you need, so you only spend time applying to positions where sponsorship is already confirmed as available.
Prepare your documentation before the offer stage
Once UT Southwestern extends an offer, their legal team moves quickly on LCA filing with the DOL. Have your passport, prior visa stamps, I-94 records, and degree certificates organized in advance so you don't create delays at a time-sensitive stage.

Find Registered Nurse at UT Southwestern Medical Center JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does UT Southwestern Medical Center sponsor H-1B visas for Registered Nurses?
Yes, UT Southwestern Medical Center sponsors H-1B visas for Registered Nurses. RN roles qualify as specialty occupations under USCIS guidelines because they require at least a bachelor's degree in nursing. As an academic medical center, UT Southwestern also qualifies as a cap-exempt employer, which means it can file H-1B petitions year-round without waiting for the annual lottery.
How do I apply for Registered Nurse jobs at UT Southwestern Medical Center?
Applications go through UT Southwestern's official careers portal, where RN roles are listed by unit and specialty. You can also browse verified open positions on Migrate Mate, which filters by visa sponsorship availability so you can confirm a role supports your visa category before applying. Tailor your application to the specific clinical unit and include your Texas RN license status or a clear timeline for obtaining it.
Which visa types does UT Southwestern Medical Center commonly use for Registered Nurse roles?
UT Southwestern has sponsored H-1B, E-3, TN, and F-1 OPT and CPT visas for Registered Nurse positions. Australian citizens are well-positioned to use the E-3, which has no lottery and allows two-year renewable periods. Canadian and Mexican nurses with RN credentials may qualify under the TN category. H-1B remains the most common route for nurses from other countries, particularly India and Nigeria.
What qualifications does UT Southwestern Medical Center expect for Registered Nurse roles?
UT Southwestern expects candidates to hold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing or higher, hold or be eligible for a Texas RN license, and have clinical experience relevant to the unit they're applying to. For internationally trained nurses, CGFNS credential verification is typically required. Specialized units such as oncology or critical care often prefer candidates with prior experience in those settings or relevant certifications like CCRN.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Registered Nurse at UT Southwestern?
Timeline depends on your visa category. H-1B processing at a cap-exempt institution like UT Southwestern can take two to four months under standard USCIS processing, or a few weeks with premium processing. E-3 and TN visas can move faster since they don't require USCIS petition approval in the same way. The DOL Labor Condition Application, required for H-1B and E-3, typically certifies within seven business days and must be completed before any visa filing begins.
