Target research and clinical roles first
UT Southwestern's sponsorship activity is concentrated in research, clinical sciences, and academic medicine. Prioritize roles in these departments when applying, as they have the deepest institutional experience processing visa petitions for international candidates.
Understand H-1B is the primary pathway
UT Southwestern's sponsorship history is heavily weighted toward H-1B visas. If you're eligible, make sure your specialty occupation qualifications are clearly documented in your application materials before reaching out to the hiring team.
Mention your visa status early in the process
Academic medical centers often have centralized HR and immigration offices. Disclosing your work authorization needs early gives UT Southwestern's team time to coordinate internally, reducing delays at the offer stage.
Align your credentials with specialty occupation standards
UT Southwestern hires for highly specialized roles where a specific degree field is typically required. Ensure your CV clearly connects your academic background to the exact role, since H-1B approval depends on that degree-to-job match.
Use Migrate Mate to filter for verified sponsoring employers
Not every job listing indicates whether sponsorship is available. Migrate Mate surfaces verified sponsors so you can filter by real sponsorship history, helping you focus your applications on institutions like UT Southwestern that have an active track record.
Factor in academic hiring cycles when timing your search
University-affiliated medical centers like UT Southwestern often recruit on academic calendars, with peaks in spring and early fall. Timing your applications around these windows can improve your chances of landing interviews for sponsored positions.
Frequently Asked Questions

Its dedicated immigration and HR infrastructure means it's well-equipped to handle the H-1B petition process efficiently.
What visa types does UT Southwestern Medical Center sponsor?
UT Southwestern sponsors several visa categories, including H-1B, E-3 visa, TN visa, F-1 OPT, and F-1 CPT. H-1B is by far the most common pathway used. E-3 visa and TN visas serve Australian and Canadian or Mexican nationals respectively, while OPT and CPT support students transitioning from F-1 status into employment at the institution.
Which departments or roles at UT Southwestern Medical Center typically receive visa sponsorship?
Sponsorship at UT Southwestern is most common in research-intensive and clinically specialized roles, including postdoctoral researchers, physicians, scientists, and technical specialists in biomedical fields. How do I find open sponsored jobs at UT Southwestern Medical Center?
Migrate Mate is the most efficient way to browse verified sponsored positions at UT Southwestern Medical Center. Unlike general job boards, Migrate Mate filters employers by confirmed sponsorship history, so you can apply with confidence that UT Southwestern is actively hiring international candidates. How do I approach the application timeline when targeting UT Southwestern Medical Center for H-1B sponsorship?
Start your search well before the April H-1B lottery cap deadline. UT Southwestern needs time to verify your specialty occupation, prepare the Labor Condition Application, and file the I-129 petition. Ideally, you should have an offer in hand by January or February to give the institution's immigration team adequate preparation time ahead of the filing window.
