Align your background with academic medical priorities
UT Southwestern's Business Development function focuses on research commercialization, clinical partnerships, and healthcare system growth. Frame your experience around institutional deal-making, grant-adjacent strategy, or life sciences partnerships rather than pure commercial sales.
Verify your visa type matches the role
UT Southwestern sponsors H-1B, E-3, TN, and F-1 OPT and CPT for Business Development positions. Confirm your visa category aligns with the specific role before applying, since academic medical centers often have different immigration workflows for research versus administrative functions.
Target roles that justify specialty occupation status
H-1B approval for Business Development hinges on demonstrating the role requires a specific bachelor's degree or higher. Roles tied to research commercialization, technology transfer, or healthcare strategy at UT Southwestern are stronger candidates than general partnership coordinator titles.
Start your OPT timeline before your offer letter arrives
F-1 OPT applications take USCIS up to 90 days to process. If you're targeting a Business Development position at UT Southwestern, file your EAD application as early as 90 days before your program end date so authorization is in place when you receive an offer.
Ask HR about the LCA filing process early
For H-1B and E-3 sponsorship, UT Southwestern must file a Labor Condition Application with the DOL before your petition is submitted. Asking about the internal LCA timeline during the offer stage helps you anticipate start date delays and avoid gaps in work authorization.
Browse verified sponsoring roles on Migrate Mate
Not every Business Development posting at UT Southwestern will explicitly state visa sponsorship. Use Migrate Mate to filter open roles at UT Southwestern that are confirmed to sponsor, so you focus your applications where sponsorship is already established.

Find Business Development at UT Southwestern Medical Center JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does UT Southwestern Medical Center sponsor H-1B visas for Business Developments?
Yes, UT Southwestern Medical Center sponsors H-1B visas for qualifying Business Development roles. Sponsorship is most straightforward for positions that meet the specialty occupation standard, meaning the role requires a specific bachelor's degree or higher in a directly related field. Roles tied to research partnerships, technology transfer, or healthcare strategy tend to meet this bar more reliably than generalist business titles.
Which visa types does UT Southwestern Medical Center commonly use for Business Development roles?
UT Southwestern sponsors H-1B, E-3, TN, F-1 OPT, and F-1 CPT for Business Development positions. Australian citizens are eligible for the E-3, which has no lottery and allows two-year renewable status. Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying business occupations may use the TN. F-1 students in OPT or CPT can work in Business Development roles while pursuing or immediately following their degree.
What qualifications are expected for Business Development roles at UT Southwestern Medical Center?
Most Business Development positions at UT Southwestern expect a bachelor's degree in business, life sciences, healthcare administration, or a related field, with advanced degrees preferred for senior roles. Given the academic medical context, experience in research commercialization, clinical program development, healthcare partnerships, or technology transfer is a practical differentiator over general corporate development backgrounds.
How do I apply for Business Development jobs at UT Southwestern Medical Center?
Applications go through UT Southwestern's official careers portal. Before applying, use Migrate Mate to identify which open Business Development roles at UT Southwestern are confirmed to offer visa sponsorship, which saves you time filtering postings that may not support international candidates. Tailor your resume to highlight healthcare, research, or institutional partnership experience relevant to an academic medical center.
How do I plan my timeline for H-1B sponsorship at UT Southwestern Medical Center?
The H-1B cap lottery opens in March each year, with an October 1 start date for selected petitions. If you're not already on an H-1B or exempt from the cap, you need an offer in place before the March registration window. UT Southwestern must also complete a DOL Labor Condition Application before filing your petition, so factor in four to six weeks for that step when negotiating your start date.
