Align your credentials with Texas licensure requirements
Texas requires state licensure for many Construction trades and project management roles. Before applying, verify your credentials meet Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation standards, since UT Southwestern's HR team will flag unlicensed candidates early in screening.
Target facilities and capital projects postings specifically
UT Southwestern's Construction openings fall under Facilities Management and Capital Projects, not a general engineering department. Searching those internal categories directly gets you past listings that would otherwise be buried under broader job families.
Confirm your visa category before the offer stage
UT Southwestern sponsors H-1B, E-3, TN, and OPT for Construction roles, but eligibility depends on your specific job classification. Confirm with the recruiter which category applies to your role before countersigning an offer, since reclassification after signing creates delays.
Use Migrate Mate to filter open Construction roles
Not all of UT Southwestern's Construction postings surface on general job boards. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for visa-sponsoring Construction openings at UT Southwestern so you're only reviewing positions the institution has indicated it will sponsor.
Prepare your OPT or CPT documentation before interviews
If you're on F-1 OPT or CPT, bring your EAD and DSO authorization letter to any on-site interview. UT Southwestern's E-Verify enrollment means onboarding moves fast, and incomplete work authorization documents are the most common cause of delayed start dates.
Understand the LCA prevailing wage for your Construction title
For H-1B and E-3 roles, your employer files a Labor Condition Application with the DOL certifying your offered wage meets the prevailing rate for your specific Construction occupation in Dallas County. Knowing this benchmark before negotiating salary prevents misaligned expectations on both sides.

Find Construction at UT Southwestern Medical Center JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does UT Southwestern Medical Center sponsor H-1B visas for Construction roles?
Yes, UT Southwestern Medical Center does sponsor H-1B visas for Construction positions. As an academic medical institution, it qualifies as a cap-exempt employer, which means H-1B petitions can be filed at any time of year without waiting for the annual lottery. That cap-exempt status is a meaningful practical advantage for candidates pursuing Construction roles there.
How do I apply for Construction jobs at UT Southwestern Medical Center?
Applications go through UT Southwestern's official careers portal. Search under Facilities Management or Capital Projects to find Construction-specific postings. Tailor your resume to the project types listed in the job description, and note your work authorization status clearly in the application. You can also browse current openings filtered by visa sponsorship on Migrate Mate before applying directly.
Which visa types does UT Southwestern Medical Center commonly use for Construction roles?
UT Southwestern sponsors H-1B, E-3, TN, F-1 OPT, and F-1 CPT for Construction positions. H-1B is the most common path for specialty construction occupations requiring a bachelor's degree. E-3 is available exclusively to Australian citizens. TN is an option for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying construction-related categories. OPT and CPT apply to current F-1 students or recent graduates.
What qualifications are expected for Construction roles at UT Southwestern Medical Center?
Most Construction roles at UT Southwestern require a bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related field for visa sponsorship eligibility. Practical experience with healthcare or large institutional facilities is frequently cited in job descriptions. Familiarity with Texas building codes and experience managing subcontractors on complex, occupied campuses strengthens your candidacy significantly.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Construction role at UT Southwestern?
Timeline depends on your visa category. E-3 and TN cases can be processed in weeks if consular appointment slots are available. H-1B processing at a cap-exempt institution like UT Southwestern typically takes two to four months under standard USCIS processing, or a few weeks with premium processing. OPT activation through your DSO can take up to 90 days, so start early.
