Target teaching and specialist roles first
The district's sponsorship history is concentrated in instructional and specialist positions. Focus your search on classroom teaching roles, special education, and curriculum support positions, where the district has the clearest pattern of sponsoring international candidates.
Understand the district's Green Card commitment
Savannah Chatham County's sponsorship activity skews heavily toward permanent residence. If long-term stability in the U.S. matters to you, this district is worth prioritizing, ask recruiters directly about PERM sponsorship timelines during the interview process.
Apply early in the hiring cycle
Public school districts hire on an academic calendar. Most teaching vacancies open between February and May for the following school year. Applying early gives you the best chance of securing a role with enough lead time for visa processing before the school year begins.
Prepare your credentials for U.S. equivalency review
The district sponsors TN visas alongside H-1B and Green Cards. If you're a Canadian or Mexican national with international teaching credentials, have your qualifications assessed for U.S. equivalency before applying, many school districts require this as part of the hiring process.
Use Migrate Mate to confirm active sponsorship before applying
Not every role at a sponsoring employer comes with sponsorship attached. Migrate Mate surfaces verified sponsors so you can filter by real sponsorship history and target positions where Savannah Chatham County has a demonstrated track record of filing.
Be ready to discuss your visa status upfront
Public school HR teams are experienced with work authorization questions but appreciate clarity. Come prepared to explain your current status, whether you need H-1B transfer or a fresh petition, and your intended timeline, it signals you understand the process and reduces friction for the hiring team.

The district is an active H-1B petitioner, primarily for roles that require a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field, such as teachers in specialized subjects. What visa types does Savannah Chatham County Public School System sponsor?
The district sponsors H-1B visas for temporary work authorization, as well as EB-2 and EB-3 Green Cards for permanent residence. Green Card sponsorship makes up the majority of the district's overall filing activity.
Which roles at Savannah Chatham County Public School System are most likely to receive visa sponsorship?
Sponsorship is most common in instructional roles, including classroom teachers in core subjects, special education specialists, and curriculum or instructional support positions. The district's size means it hires across a wide range of disciplines, but roles requiring a specific degree in a defined field are the strongest candidates for H-1B or Green Card sponsorship.
