Credential Your Nursing License Before Applying
Humana's clinical roles require an active, unencumbered RN license in the state where you'll work. If you trained abroad, complete CGFNS credential evaluation and state licensure before submitting applications so your candidacy isn't delayed at the offer stage.
Target Care Management Roles for Sponsorship Fit
Humana's heaviest nursing hiring sits in telephonic care management and utilization review, roles that operate remotely and don't require direct bedside care. These positions align well with employer-sponsored visas because the job duties are consistent and the specialty occupation argument is straightforward.
Understand Humana's Corporate Structure When Applying
Humana operates through multiple business units and subsidiaries. Confirm which legal entity is listed on the job posting, because the sponsoring employer on your LCA and visa petition must match exactly. Mismatches between your offer letter entity and the USCIS filing are a common source of delays.
Align Your Application Timing With H-1B Cap Deadlines
If you need H-1B sponsorship, Humana must register you in the USCIS lottery each March for an October 1 start. Securing your offer by February gives HR time to work with immigration counsel before the registration window closes and avoids a year-long delay.
Ask Explicitly About TN Status for Canadian and Mexican Nurses
TN visas are available to Canadian and Mexican RNs under USMCA and don't require a lottery or USCIS petition. Humana's recruiters may default to H-1B conversations, so raise TN eligibility directly during the offer stage if it applies to you.
Find Open Roles Before Outreach Using Migrate Mate
Filtering Humana's active nursing postings by visa sponsorship eligibility saves hours of manual research. Use Migrate Mate to identify current Registered Nurse openings at Humana that are open to sponsored candidates before reaching out to recruiters.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Humana sponsor H-1B visas for Registered Nurses?
Yes, Humana sponsors H-1B visas for Registered Nurses, particularly in care management and utilization review roles that qualify as specialty occupations. Because the H-1B is subject to the annual cap and lottery, your offer needs to be in place before the March registration window. Humana works with immigration counsel to file petitions, so you'll want to raise sponsorship explicitly during the offer negotiation rather than assuming it's automatic.
How do I apply for Registered Nurse jobs at Humana?
Applications go through Humana's careers portal at careers.humana.com, where you can filter by role type and location. Migrate Mate also surfaces Humana's active Registered Nurse postings that are open to visa-sponsored candidates, which simplifies finding the right openings. Tailor your resume to reflect the specific nursing function each role covers, whether that's care coordination, disease management, or utilization review, since Humana's clinical teams are highly specialized.
Which visa types does Humana commonly use for Registered Nurses?
Humana sponsors Registered Nurses through H-1B, TN, EB-2, and EB-3 pathways, as well as F-1 OPT and CPT for nursing graduates completing supervised practice hours. TN status is available to Canadian and Mexican RNs without a lottery. EB-3 is the most common Green Card route for nurses, often involving PERM labor certification filed through the DOL. The right pathway depends on your nationality, current status, and career timeline.
What qualifications does Humana expect from Registered Nurse candidates?
Humana's RN roles typically require an active, unencumbered state nursing license and an associate's or bachelor's degree in nursing. Care management positions often expect at least two to three years of clinical experience, and many postings prefer candidates with case management certifications such as CCM. For telephonic and utilization review roles, familiarity with managed care, ICD coding, and clinical criteria tools like InterQual is a practical differentiator during screening.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Registered Nurse at Humana?
Timeline depends heavily on the visa type. H-1B sponsorship tied to the annual cap means a gap of up to seven months between your offer and your start date if you're selected in March for an October 1 start. TN status for Canadian nationals can be obtained at a port of entry in a single day. EB-3 Green Card sponsorship through PERM takes significantly longer, often two to four years or more, depending on your country of birth and DOL processing backlogs.
