Align your credentials with Colorado licensing requirements
Colorado requires Healthcare Assistants to meet specific certification standards before employment begins. Verify your foreign credentials through a NACES-approved evaluation service early, since unresolved equivalency questions can delay both your offer and any subsequent visa filing.
Target postings tied to academic medical departments
University of Colorado hires Healthcare Assistants across its hospital system and academic health sciences programs. Roles tied to research clinics or teaching units are more likely to have the institutional HR infrastructure that actively supports H-1B and other sponsored visa filings.
Confirm sponsorship intent before your final interview
University HR departments often distinguish between roles budgeted for sponsorship and those that are not, even within the same job family. Ask your recruiter directly which visa types the hiring department has approved for that specific Healthcare Assistant position before advancing.
Understand how J-1 status interacts with long-term goals
If you enter on a J-1 visa through a university-affiliated exchange program, a two-year home residency requirement may apply. This blocks direct H-1B or Green Card filing until it is waived, so clarify your J-1 category with your program sponsor before accepting any offer.
Use Migrate Mate to surface open Healthcare Assistant roles
University of Colorado posts Healthcare Assistant openings across multiple internal and external channels, making it easy to miss relevant positions. Search Migrate Mate to find currently open roles at University of Colorado filtered by visa sponsorship eligibility, so you apply to positions that are actually viable for your situation.
Track the H-1B cap and filing window against your OPT timeline
If you are on F-1 OPT, your work authorization and the annual H-1B cap registration window in March must align. USCIS begins cap-subject H-1B registrations in the spring for October 1 start dates, so coordinate your offer timing with University of Colorado's HR team well in advance.

Find Healthcare Assistant at University of Colorado JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does University of Colorado sponsor H-1B visas for Healthcare Assistants?
Yes, University of Colorado sponsors H-1B visas for Healthcare Assistant roles, though sponsorship is typically determined at the departmental level rather than as a blanket institutional policy. Roles within the university's hospital and academic health sciences units are the most common entry points. Confirm sponsorship availability for the specific position during the recruiting process, since not every Healthcare Assistant posting carries the same approval.
Which visa types are commonly used for Healthcare Assistant roles at University of Colorado?
Healthcare Assistants at University of Colorado most commonly work on H-1B, J-1, or F-1 OPT authorization, depending on their background and the nature of the role. TN visas are available for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying healthcare support occupations. EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card sponsorship is less common at the entry level but does occur for candidates who have been with the university and demonstrate sustained employment.
How do I apply for Healthcare Assistant jobs at University of Colorado?
Applications go through the University of Colorado's official jobs portal at cu.edu/cu-careers. Search by job category for Healthcare Assistant or patient care support roles. You can also browse open positions filtered by visa sponsorship eligibility on Migrate Mate, which makes it easier to identify which University of Colorado postings are realistic for international candidates before you invest time in applying.
What qualifications and experience does University of Colorado expect for Healthcare Assistant roles?
Most Healthcare Assistant postings at University of Colorado require a high school diploma or equivalent at minimum, with many clinical support roles expecting a Certified Nursing Assistant credential or relevant patient care experience. Roles embedded in academic medical or research settings may require additional phlebotomy, medical assisting, or electronic health records experience. Foreign credential evaluations through a NACES-approved service are typically required for degrees earned outside the United States.
How do I understand the timeline for visa processing after receiving an offer from University of Colorado?
Timeline depends on your current status. F-1 OPT holders can begin work immediately if authorization is active, with H-1B cap registration required by March for an October 1 start. J-1 applicants should account for any home residency requirement that could delay transition to H-1B. For employer-sponsored Green Card pathways, PERM labor certification through DOL typically adds one to two years before an immigrant petition can be filed.
