Verify Your Clinical Certification Before Applying
New York State requires Nursing Assistants to hold an active CNA certification. Confirm your credential is current and transferable before submitting applications, since Northwell screens for state licensure compliance early in the hiring process.
Target Northwell Facilities With High Nursing Demand
Northwell operates hospitals and long-term care sites across Long Island, New York City, and Westchester. Facilities with higher patient volumes, like North Shore University Hospital, tend to post Nursing Assistant openings more consistently throughout the year.
Understand Which Visa Pathways Fit This Role
Nursing Assistant positions are typically supported through F-1 OPT for recent graduates, TN status for Canadian and Mexican nationals, or employer-sponsored permanent residence pathways like EB-3. H-1B applies but requires that the role meet specialty occupation criteria, which can be more complex for clinical support positions.
Ask Recruiters About the PERM Timeline Early
If you're targeting a Green Card through Northwell, EB-3 requires a PERM labor certification filed with the DOL before the immigrant petition. This process can take 12 to 24 months, so raise it during the offer stage rather than after you've started.
Use Migrate Mate to Find Verified Nursing Assistant Openings
Not every Northwell job posting flags visa sponsorship availability. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for Nursing Assistant roles at Northwell Health where sponsorship has been confirmed, saving you time and avoiding applications where your status would be a barrier.
Align Your OPT Start Date With Northwell's Hiring Cycle
F-1 OPT authorization is tied to a specific employment start date filed with USCIS. If your OPT window opens before you receive an offer, you risk burning authorized days. Coordinate with Northwell's HR team so your OPT activation aligns with your actual start date.

Does Northwell Health sponsor H-1B visas for Nursing Assistants?
Northwell Health does sponsor H-1B visas, but eligibility for Nursing Assistant roles depends on whether the specific position qualifies as a specialty occupation under USCIS criteria. Clinical support roles can face greater scrutiny than registered nursing positions. If H-1B is your pathway, confirm the role's eligibility with Northwell's immigration team before advancing through the hiring process.
How do I apply for Nursing Assistant jobs at Northwell Health?
Applications are submitted through Northwell Health's careers portal, where you can filter by role and location. Because not all postings clearly indicate visa sponsorship availability, using Migrate Mate to identify confirmed sponsorship-eligible openings at Northwell saves you from pursuing roles where your immigration status may not be supported. Have your CNA certification and eligibility documentation ready before applying.
Which visa types are commonly used for Nursing Assistant roles at Northwell Health?
The most practical pathways for Nursing Assistant roles at Northwell are F-1 OPT for recent graduates in health-related programs, TN status for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying clinical classifications, and EB-3 for employer-sponsored permanent residence. H-1B sponsorship is possible but requires demonstrating specialty occupation status, which involves additional review for clinical support roles.
What qualifications and experience does Northwell Health expect for Nursing Assistant roles?
Northwell typically expects active New York State CNA certification, basic life support training, and prior experience in a hospital or long-term care setting. Roles in high-acuity units such as intensive care or surgical floors may require additional clinical exposure. Fluency in English is essential given the direct patient communication involved, and compliance with New York State health requirements is mandatory.
How do I know if the timeline works for my visa status?
Timeline alignment is one of the most practical concerns for visa-dependent applicants. F-1 OPT windows are fixed and tied to USCIS-approved start dates, so delays in Northwell's hiring process can reduce your authorized work period. TN status can be obtained at the port of entry with minimal lead time. For EB-3 Green Card pathways, PERM labor certification processing alone typically runs 12 to 24 months, so begin that conversation at the offer stage.
