Get Your Credentials Evaluated Before Applying
International nursing degrees require a foreign credential evaluation before USCIS or a state licensing board will recognize them. Request a course-by-course evaluation from CGFNS early, delays here push back your entire timeline.
Obtain NCLEX Licensure in New York State
Northwell requires active RN licensure in New York before you start. Sit for the NCLEX and apply to NYSED for your RN license as soon as your credential evaluation clears. Don't wait for a job offer to begin this.
Target Northwell's High-Volume Units First
Northwell's largest sponsorship activity for Clinical Nurses concentrates in acute care, med-surg, and critical care units. Applying to roles in these departments gives you a stronger shot than applying to specialty units with narrower hiring pipelines.
Understand the EB-3 Timeline for Nurses
If you're pursuing a Green Card through EB-3, the PERM labor certification process adds significant time before USCIS can act on your I-140. Budget 12 to 24 months from PERM filing to an approved petition, not counting visa backlog wait times.
Clarify Sponsorship Intent During the Offer Stage
Ask Northwell's HR team directly which visa types they'll support for your specific role and location before signing an offer. Sponsorship practices can differ between Northwell facilities, and confirming the details in writing protects you from surprises at filing.
Use Migrate Mate to Find Open Roles Efficiently
Filtering for verified Clinical Nurse openings at sponsoring employers saves you hours of manual research. Migrate Mate surfaces Northwell Health roles alongside confirmed sponsorship history, so you can apply to positions where a visa pathway is already established.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Northwell Health sponsor H-1B visas for Clinical Nurses?
Yes, Northwell Health sponsors H-1B visas for Clinical Nurses. Nursing roles qualify as specialty occupations when the position requires at least a bachelor's degree in nursing. Because the H-1B is subject to an annual lottery, Northwell also supports EB-2 and EB-3 immigrant visa pathways, which provide a more predictable route for candidates who need long-term work authorization.
Which visa types does Northwell Health commonly use for Clinical Nurse hires?
Northwell sponsors H-1B, TN visa, F-1 OPT, and F-1 CPT visas for Clinical Nurse roles, along with EB-2 and EB-3 immigrant visa categories for nurses pursuing a Green Card. TN visa is available to Canadian and Mexican RNs under USMCA. F-1 OPT is typically used by nurses who completed a U.S. nursing program before transitioning to employer sponsorship.
What qualifications does Northwell Health expect for Clinical Nurse roles?
Northwell requires an active New York State RN license, a bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) for most clinical positions, and BLS certification at minimum. Many acute care and ICU postings ask for one to two years of relevant clinical experience. International candidates also need a foreign credential evaluation from an organization like CGFNS before the state licensing board will process their application.
How do I apply for Clinical Nurse jobs at Northwell Health?
You can browse and apply to open Clinical Nurse positions through Northwell's careers portal or find verified sponsoring roles on Migrate Mate, which filters for positions where Northwell has an active sponsorship track record. When applying, confirm your visa status upfront in your application materials. Northwell's talent acquisition team typically screens for licensure and clinical background before advancing candidates to hiring manager interviews.
How do I plan my timeline if I need H-1B sponsorship for a Clinical Nurse role at Northwell?
H-1B petitions are filed in April each year for an October 1 start date. If you're selected in the lottery, USCIS has roughly five to six months to adjudicate before your start date. You'll need your NCLEX passed, New York RN license active, and an offer letter finalized before Northwell can file on your behalf. Starting the credential evaluation and licensing process six to twelve months before the April window is realistic planning.
