Align your credentials with Wisconsin CNA requirements
Wisconsin requires Nursing Assistants to hold an active CNA certification on the state registry. Confirm your certification transfers or get reciprocity processed before applying, since MCW's hiring team screens for active registry status upfront.
Target MCW's clinical departments directly
Nursing Assistant openings at MCW span inpatient units, simulation labs, and affiliated clinical sites. Filter your search by department rather than job title alone, since postings sometimes appear under patient care technician or clinical support classifications.
Clarify your visa type before the offer stage
MCW sponsors multiple visa categories for Nursing Assistant roles. Disclose your current status early in conversations with the recruiter so the HR team can route your case to the right filing pathway without delaying your start date.
Use Migrate Mate to track MCW sponsorship openings
Nursing Assistant roles that include sponsorship don't always stay posted long at academic medical centers. Use Migrate Mate to filter MCW openings by visa type and get notified when new positions matching your status go live.
Prepare your OPT or CPT documentation early
If you're on F-1 OPT, your employment authorization must cover your full intended start date. Bring your EAD card, I-20, and SEVP portal confirmation to any pre-hire documentation meeting so MCW's onboarding team can verify work authorization without delays.
Understand PERM timing for EB-2 and EB-3 paths
MCW has sponsored Nursing Assistants through PERM-based green card processes. PERM labor certification requires DOL approval before an I-140 can be filed, a sequence that typically takes six months or more, so raise your long-term immigration goals during the offer negotiation stage.

Does Medical College of Wisconsin sponsor H-1B visas for Nursing Assistants?
Yes, Medical College of Wisconsin sponsors H-1B visas for Nursing Assistant roles. As an academic medical institution, MCW qualifies as a cap-exempt H-1B employer, meaning petitions can be filed at any time of year without waiting for the annual lottery. That cap-exempt status is a meaningful practical advantage for candidates on F-1 OPT who need a timely transition.
How do I apply for Nursing Assistant jobs at Medical College of Wisconsin?
Applications go through MCW's official careers portal. Search for Nursing Assistant or patient care support roles and apply directly. You can also use Migrate Mate to browse MCW's current openings filtered by visa sponsorship eligibility, which helps you identify active postings faster without manually checking the careers page each day.
Which visa types does Medical College of Wisconsin commonly sponsor for Nursing Assistant roles?
MCW supports a range of visa categories for Nursing Assistants, including H-1B, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, TN, and employment-based Green Card pathways such as EB-2 and EB-3. TN visas are available to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying healthcare support occupations. The right category depends on your nationality, education, and how long you've been in the U.S.
What qualifications does Medical College of Wisconsin expect for Nursing Assistant candidates?
MCW expects active CNA certification on the Wisconsin Nurse Aide Registry for most Nursing Assistant positions. Clinical experience in an inpatient, long-term care, or academic medical setting is valued. Some roles in simulation or research-affiliated units may require additional training or comfort working alongside medical students and residents in a teaching environment.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Nursing Assistant at Medical College of Wisconsin?
Timeline depends on visa type. H-1B petitions at cap-exempt institutions like MCW can be filed any time, with standard USCIS processing taking three to five months. F-1 OPT transitions are faster if your EAD is already active. PERM-based Green Card sponsorship through EB-3 involves DOL labor certification, which adds six months or more before USCIS adjudication begins.
