Verify Your Credentials Meet Florida Requirements
Florida requires Nursing Assistants to hold a current CNA certification through the state registry. Confirm your credential is active and transferable before applying, since UF's HR team screens for Florida compliance before advancing candidates to sponsorship discussions.
Target UF Health Postings Separately From Campus Jobs
UF Health and the broader University of Florida campus post through different channels. Nursing Assistant openings tied to clinical operations, like Shands Hospital, often have distinct hiring managers and timelines from general university staff roles, so search both portals.
Ask HR Directly About Visa Type Early
UF supports multiple visa categories for healthcare support roles, including H-1B, E-3, and TN. During your first recruiter call, ask which visa type they intend to file for your specific unit, since different departments handle sponsorship through different workflows.
Use Migrate Mate to Find Sponsoring Nursing Assistant Roles
Filtering for Nursing Assistant openings at universities that actively sponsor can save weeks of manual research. Migrate Mate surfaces verified sponsoring employers so you can prioritize UF and similar academic health systems without guessing at their sponsorship history.
Request a Timeline Estimate Before Accepting an Offer
Once UF extends an offer, ask the hiring manager for an estimated filing timeline through their International Center. Academic institutions follow academic calendars, and PERM-based pathways like EB-2 or EB-3 can add significant lead time before your start date is confirmed.

Find Nursing Assistant at University of Florida JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does University of Florida sponsor H-1B visas for Nursing Assistants?
Yes, University of Florida sponsors H-1B visas, including for Nursing Assistant roles within its health system. Sponsorship is typically coordinated through UF's International Center in collaboration with the hiring department. Because H-1B is cap-subject, your offer timing needs to align with the annual April filing window, and UF generally requires enough lead time to prepare the petition.
Which visa types are commonly used for Nursing Assistant roles at University of Florida?
UF supports several visa categories for healthcare support staff, including H-1B, E-3 for Australian citizens, TN for Canadian and Mexican nationals, and J-1 for exchange visitors. F-1 OPT and CPT are also used by students completing clinical placements. The right visa depends on your nationality, degree, and whether the role qualifies as a specialty occupation under USCIS definitions.
What qualifications does University of Florida expect for Nursing Assistant candidates?
UF typically requires an active Florida CNA certification, Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, and at least some prior clinical experience for most Nursing Assistant openings. Roles within UF Health, including Shands Hospital, may require additional competencies specific to the unit. Foreign credentials are generally accepted if your Florida CNA certification is current and in good standing on the state registry.
How do I apply for Nursing Assistant jobs at University of Florida?
You can browse and apply through UF's official careers portal, which lists both university and UF Health openings separately. To find roles that include visa sponsorship, use Migrate Mate to filter Nursing Assistant positions at UF and similar academic health employers. When applying, note your work authorization status in the application so the hiring team can route your file appropriately from the start.
How do I plan the timeline for visa sponsorship at a university like UF?
University hiring and sponsorship timelines are slower than private sector employers because they involve multiple internal approvals, including faculty or department sign-off and coordination with the International Center. For H-1B cap-subject cases, the April filing deadline is fixed, so back-plan your offer acceptance accordingly. PERM-based Green Card pathways through EB-2 or EB-3 add further lead time and typically begin only after you're already employed.
