Obtain FAA certification before applying
An FAA Airframe and Powerplant certificate signals hands-on readiness for defense aviation maintenance. Shield AI's platforms require rigorous mechanical standards, and holding this credential positions you ahead of candidates who need employer-funded training before clearance-adjacent work begins.
Target Shield AI's MRO and depot roles
Shield AI posts Mechanic openings tied to specific aircraft platforms and operational sites. Filter your search by location and platform type, since roles supporting autonomous systems often have different sponsorship pathways than general aviation maintenance positions within the same company.
Clarify your visa category early in interviews
TN status works if you hold Canadian or Mexican citizenship and qualify under the USMCA technician classification. For other nationalities, EB-2 or EB-3 PERM sponsorship is the more common path for Mechanic roles, so confirm which route the hiring team is prepared to support before accepting an offer.
Align your resume with defense maintenance standards
Highlight experience with military-specification maintenance documentation, torque and calibration procedures, or avionics integration. Shield AI's defense contracts demand compliance with specific technical standards, and resumes that reflect this directly address the qualifications their hiring teams screen for in Mechanic candidates.
Understand the PERM timeline for Mechanic roles
PERM labor certification through DOL can take 12 to 18 months before an EB-3 petition is filed with USCIS. If you're already in the U.S. on OPT or another status, map your authorization expiry against this timeline and discuss bridging options with the employer before your start date.
Use Migrate Mate to find open Mechanic roles
Searching for sponsorship-friendly Mechanic openings at defense contractors is easier when listings are filtered by visa type. Migrate Mate lets you browse Shield AI's current Mechanic postings and filter by the visa categories they actively sponsor, saving time you'd otherwise spend vetting individual listings.

Find Mechanic at Shield AI JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Shield AI sponsor H-1B visas for Mechanics?
Shield AI's sponsorship for Mechanic roles more commonly runs through EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card pathways rather than H-1B. Mechanic positions typically fall under skilled trades classifications that align better with PERM-based immigrant visa routes. That said, F-1 OPT, CPT, TN, and J-1 categories have also been used for roles in this function, so your eligibility depends on your specific visa status and nationality.
How do I apply for Mechanic jobs at Shield AI?
Applications go through Shield AI's careers portal, where Mechanic roles are listed by site and platform type. Before applying, confirm your visa eligibility for the specific role, since some positions require security clearance eligibility that can affect sponsorship options. Migrate Mate aggregates Shield AI's open Mechanic postings filtered by visa category, which is a faster way to identify roles that match your immigration situation before you apply directly.
Which visa types are commonly used for Mechanic roles at Shield AI?
EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card sponsorship through PERM labor certification is the most established path for Mechanic roles at Shield AI. F-1 OPT and CPT are available for students or recent graduates in relevant technical programs. TN status applies to Canadian and Mexican nationals who qualify under USMCA technician categories. J-1 is also supported in certain training or exchange contexts.
What qualifications does Shield AI expect for Mechanic roles?
Shield AI's Mechanic postings typically require hands-on experience with aircraft maintenance, familiarity with military or defense-grade documentation standards, and often an FAA Airframe and Powerplant certificate. Experience with autonomous or unmanned aerial systems is a meaningful differentiator given Shield AI's platform focus. Some roles also require the ability to obtain a security clearance, which affects which visa categories can realistically lead to an offer.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Mechanic role at Shield AI?
For EB-3 sponsorship, the PERM labor certification process at DOL typically runs 12 to 18 months, followed by USCIS processing of the I-140 petition. If your priority date is current, adjustment of status or consular processing adds additional time. For F-1 OPT, work authorization is tied to your program end date and the 60-day grace period, so coordinating your start date with your OPT timeline is critical before signing an offer.
