INTRODUCTION
Founded in 2015, Shield AI is a venture-backed deep-tech company with the mission of protecting service members and civilians with intelligent systems. Its products include the V-BAT and X-BAT aircraft, Hivemind Enterprise, and the Hivemind Vision product lines. With offices and facilities across the U.S., Europe, the Middle East, and the Asia-Pacific, Shield AI’s technology actively supports operations worldwide.
ABOUT THE JOB
Shield AI is redefining autonomous aviation with cutting-edge AI and GPS/RF-denied navigation technologies. Now, we’re building a next-generation aircraft XBAT like no other—one that will push the boundaries of innovation and performance.
We’re looking for a Staff Power Engineer to provide technical leadership in the design, development, and delivery of high-performance power systems across our aircraft programs. This is a high-ownership role where you will define architectures, mentor junior engineers, and ensure that our power electronics meet the rigorous demands of autonomous aviation. If you excel in cross-functional collaboration, thrive in fast-moving environments, and are passionate about pushing the limits of power system design, we want to hear from you.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Own flight critical power sub-system design for X-BAT
- Design power electronics for the high voltage and low voltage systems. This includes inverters, DC-DC converters, battery management, and other power electronics
- Harden the designs for harsh environments such as shock/vibe, high reliability, radiation, and high-altitude
- Work on power sub-systems and designs for both low power (<1 kW) and high power (>10 kW)
- Full-cycle hardware development: Own the entire flow — concept, modeling, worst case analysis, schematic capture, simulation, prototyping, design reiteration for improving design maturity, testing and validation
- PCB ownership: Drive PCB layout and design with ECAD engineers, optimizing for power density, EMI, thermal, and manufacturability
- Design for Safety, Manufacturability and Reliability: Design robust systems keeping in mind best practices for safety, manufacturing and reliability
- Board Bring Up and Testing: Execute board bring up, verification, validation and HALT testing to meet rigorous aerospace reliability standards
- Cross-functional collaboration: Work closely with Mechanical, CAD, Embedded, Software, Supply Chain, Test Automation, Production and various aircraft teams throughout the product lifecycle
- Design review leadership: Lead and contribute to cross-functional reviews ensuring robust, high-integrity engineering decisions. Mentor junior engineers that support your design
- Program execution: Manage project timelines, deliverables, and technical milestones to drive on-time, high-quality outcomes
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- You have a B.S. in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
- You have 5+ years of experience as an Electrical Engineer
- You are experienced with: circuit design, schematic capture, component selection, circuit testing, and debugging
- You have a demonstrated record of working hard, being a trustworthy teammate, holding yourself and others to high standards, and being kind to others
- Familiarity with Altium or equivalent
COMPENSATION
- Salary Range: $150,130 - $225,196 a year
- Full-time regular employee offer package: Pay within range listed + Bonus + Benefits + Equity
- Temporary employee offer package: Pay within range listed above + temporary benefits package (applicable after 60 days of employment)
Salary compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, licenses and certifications, and specific work location. All offers are contingent on a cleared background and possible reference check. Military fellows and part-time employees are not eligible for benefits. Please speak to your talent acquisition representative for more information.

Align your credentials to defense clearance expectations
Shield AI's Electrical Engineer roles frequently require or lead to security clearance eligibility. Gather documentation of your degree, any relevant certifications, and prior project work on controlled or classified systems before you apply.
Target Shield AI's embedded and avionics hardware teams
Open Electrical Engineer roles at Shield AI cluster around autonomous vehicle hardware and avionics integration. Tailoring your resume to power systems, FPGA design, or hardware-in-the-loop testing will position you for the roles most likely to sponsor.
Verify your OPT or CPT timeline before accepting an offer
If you're on F-1 status, confirm your remaining OPT authorization window against Shield AI's typical onboarding timeline. A gap between your start date and an approved work authorization can delay your entry onto defense programs.
Understand how PERM shapes your Green Card timeline
Shield AI sponsors EB-2 and EB-3 categories, both of which require PERM labor certification through DOL. For Electrical Engineers from high-demand countries, priority dates can significantly extend the path, so factor this into your long-term planning early.
Ask about TN eligibility if you hold Canadian or Mexican citizenship
Shield AI has sponsored TN visas, which cover electrical and electronics engineers under USMCA. TN status doesn't require an employer petition through USCIS and can be faster to activate than H-1B, making it a practical first step.
Use Migrate Mate to filter Electrical Engineer roles by sponsorship type
Not every Shield AI job posting specifies which visa categories are supported. Use Migrate Mate to browse Electrical Engineer openings at Shield AI filtered by the visa type relevant to your situation, so you apply to roles where sponsorship fits your status.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Shield AI sponsor H-1B visas for Electrical Engineers?
Shield AI's public visa sponsorship history does not prominently feature H-1B visa filings for Electrical Engineers. The company has sponsored F-1 OPT, TN visa, and employment-based Green Card categories for engineering roles. If H-1B visa sponsorship is a requirement for your situation, raise it directly with the recruiter early in the process, since defense employers vary on H-1B willingness depending on the role's clearance requirements.
How do I apply for Electrical Engineer jobs at Shield AI?
Applications go through Shield AI's careers portal, where Electrical Engineer roles are listed by team, such as autonomy hardware, avionics, or power systems. Tailor your application to the specific hardware domain the role covers. You can also browse Shield AI's open Electrical Engineer positions filtered by visa sponsorship type on Migrate Mate before applying directly.
Which visa types does Shield AI commonly use for Electrical Engineer roles?
Shield AI has sponsored F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, TN, J-1 visa, and employment-based immigrant visas in the EB-2 and EB-3 categories for engineering talent. TN is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals with an electrical or electronics engineering degree. EB-2 and EB-3 require PERM labor certification through DOL and are suited to candidates seeking permanent residence.
What qualifications does Shield AI expect for Electrical Engineer roles?
Most Electrical Engineer postings at Shield AI require a bachelor's degree or higher in electrical engineering or a closely related field. Roles in avionics and autonomous vehicle hardware often call for experience with FPGA development, embedded systems, or RF design. Security clearance eligibility is a common additional requirement, and some positions require active clearances from day one.
How do I plan my visa timeline when joining Shield AI as an Electrical Engineer?
If you're transitioning from F-1 OPT, build in lead time for USCIS processing before your authorization expires. TN visa holders can typically begin work faster since approval can occur at the port of entry. For EB-2 or EB-3 pathways, PERM filing and USCIS adjudication timelines can extend two or more years, so align your long-term planning accordingly from the offer stage.
