Align Your Degree to Specialty Occupation Standards
USCIS requires that your degree field directly relate to the role. For Electrical Engineer positions at Thermo Fisher, a degree in electrical engineering or a closely related discipline strengthens the specialty occupation argument and reduces RFE risk on your H-1B petition.
Target Instrument and Automation Engineering Openings
Thermo Fisher's hardware and lab instrument divisions hire Electrical Engineers for embedded systems, PCB design, and automated testing platforms. These product-focused roles are more likely to appear on long-term headcount plans, which makes sustained sponsorship through the Green Card process more feasible.
Clarify Sponsorship Scope Before Accepting an Offer
During the offer stage, confirm whether Thermo Fisher will cover H-1B premium processing and whether they support PERM-based Green Card sponsorship. Some engineering divisions handle this differently, so getting clarity in writing before you sign protects you downstream.
Use OPT or CPT to Build Internal Sponsorship History
Starting on F-1 OPT or CPT through a co-op or internship gives you an employment record inside Thermo Fisher before your H-1B petition is filed. Internal candidates with demonstrated performance face fewer friction points when the company decides to sponsor.
Browse Open Electrical Engineer Roles on Migrate Mate
Find Electrical Engineer openings at Thermo Fisher Scientific filtered by visa sponsorship type on Migrate Mate. It surfaces roles where sponsorship has been confirmed, saving you from applying to postings that won't move forward for international candidates.
Time Your H-1B Filing Around the April Cap Season
H-1B registrations open in March for an October 1 start date. If you're on OPT, confirm your OPT end date against this timeline. If it expires before October 1, check whether your role and degree qualify for the 24-month STEM OPT extension to bridge the gap.

Find Electrical Engineer at Thermo Fisher Scientific JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Thermo Fisher Scientific sponsor H-1B visas for Electrical Engineers?
Yes, Thermo Fisher Scientific sponsors H-1B visas for Electrical Engineers. The company's engineering and instrumentation divisions regularly support H-1B petitions for roles in hardware development, embedded systems, and manufacturing. Sponsorship decisions are made at the business unit level, so confirm with your hiring manager or recruiter that the specific role and team have sponsorship budget allocated before you progress through later interview stages.
How do I apply for Electrical Engineer jobs at Thermo Fisher Scientific?
Applications go through Thermo Fisher's careers portal at thermofisher.com/careers. Filter by job function and location to surface Electrical Engineer roles. You can also browse verified sponsorship-eligible openings on Migrate Mate, which lets you filter specifically for positions where visa sponsorship has been confirmed, reducing time spent on roles that won't work for international candidates.
Which visa types does Thermo Fisher Scientific commonly use for Electrical Engineer roles?
Thermo Fisher sponsors H-1B visas for Electrical Engineers as the most common nonimmigrant pathway. F-1 OPT and CPT are used for students and new graduates, including the 24-month STEM OPT extension available to qualifying engineering degree holders. For longer-term pathways, the company also supports EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card sponsorship through PERM labor certification for engineers in permanent, full-time roles. TN status is available for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering occupations.
What qualifications does Thermo Fisher Scientific expect for Electrical Engineer roles?
Most Electrical Engineer openings at Thermo Fisher require a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a directly related field. Roles in instrumentation and lab automation typically prioritize experience with PCB design, embedded firmware, or automated test equipment. For H-1B purposes, your degree field needs to align specifically with the job duties, so a generalist engineering background without coursework in the relevant subfield can complicate the specialty occupation determination.
How long does the sponsorship and hiring process take for Electrical Engineers at Thermo Fisher?
From offer to H-1B approval, expect a minimum of several months if your employer uses regular USCIS processing. Premium processing reduces the USCIS adjudication window to 15 business days but adds cost that not all business units cover. If you're transitioning from OPT, your start date must align with your OPT authorization period. PERM-based Green Card sponsorship runs on a separate, longer timeline that typically begins after you've been in the role for at least a year.
