Align Your Credentials to Texas Educator Standards
Texas State reviews K-12 Education candidates against state-defined teaching and educator preparation competencies. Make sure your transcripts, certifications, and any foreign credential evaluations reflect familiarity with Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills frameworks before you apply.
Target Roles Within the College of Education
Texas State's College of Education and its educator preparation unit are the primary hubs for K-12 Education hiring. Filtering your search to those departments puts you in front of the positions most likely to involve curriculum, clinical supervision, or teacher training work that supports sponsorship.
Use Migrate Mate to Surface Open Positions Early
K-12 Education openings at Texas State can move quickly through hiring cycles. Use Migrate Mate to filter and track sponsorship-eligible roles at the university so you're applying in the first wave, not after the position has advanced to final interviews.
Clarify OPT Cap-Gap Coverage Before Your Start Date
If you're on F-1 OPT when Texas State extends an offer, confirm your cap-gap period covers your intended start date. USCIS automatically extends OPT authorization while an H-1B petition is pending, but your I-20 must reflect the correct program end date for this protection to apply.
Prepare for the PERM Timeline on Permanent Roles
For K-12 Education positions that lead to an EB-2 or EB-3 green card, Texas State must complete a DOL PERM labor certification before filing the immigrant petition. This process runs six months to over a year, so factor that into your long-term planning from day one.
Ask Directly About TN Eligibility During Offer Negotiations
Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying education roles may be eligible for TN status, which Texas State can support without going through the H-1B lottery. Raise this during the offer stage so HR can assess whether your specific K-12 role and citizenship match TN criteria.

Find K 12 Education at Texas State University JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Texas State University sponsor H-1B visas for K 12 Educations?
Yes, Texas State University sponsors H-1B visas for qualifying K-12 Education positions, particularly roles that require a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field of study and meet the specialty occupation standard. The university's HR and international employment office handles the I-129 petition process, including the required Labor Condition Application filed with DOL before submission to USCIS.
How do I apply for K 12 Education jobs at Texas State University?
Applications go through Texas State University's official jobs portal, where K-12 Education postings list required qualifications, departmental contact, and application materials. You'll typically submit a resume or CV, cover letter, and teaching or research statements depending on the role. Migrate Mate also surfaces sponsorship-eligible K-12 Education openings at Texas State, letting you identify and apply to relevant positions in one place.
Which visa types does Texas State University commonly use for K 12 Education roles?
Texas State supports several visa categories for K-12 Education hires. H-1B is the most common for full-time specialty occupation roles. J-1 is frequently used for visiting scholars, exchange lecturers, and research-focused positions. F-1 OPT and CPT cover students completing practicums or clinical placements. TN status is an option for eligible Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying education roles. EB-2 and EB-3 green cards apply when positions support permanent employment.
What qualifications does Texas State University expect for K 12 Education candidates?
Texas State generally requires a relevant graduate degree, often a master's or doctorate, for K-12 Education roles involving teacher preparation, curriculum development, or instructional leadership. Classroom teaching experience in a U.S. or internationally recognized K-12 setting strengthens your application significantly. Some roles require or prefer Texas state teaching licensure or eligibility to obtain it, so review each posting carefully against your credentials.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a K 12 Education role at Texas State University?
For H-1B, the process includes DOL Labor Condition Application certification, typically two to seven business days, followed by USCIS petition review, which runs three to six months under standard processing or within 15 business days with premium processing. PERM-based green card paths run considerably longer. Planning your timeline around an academic hiring cycle, which at Texas State often begins six to nine months before a role's start date, helps avoid gaps in authorization.
