Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Teaching Jobs at Texas State University Jobs
Align your credentials with Texas State's academic requirements
Most Teaching roles require a terminal degree in your discipline. Confirm your foreign credentials are evaluated by a NACES-approved agency before applying, since Texas State's HR team will request equivalency documentation early in the hiring process.
Target department-specific faculty searches proactively
Texas State posts tenure-track and lecturer openings at the department level, not just centrally. Monitor individual college websites and Workday listings separately, because Teaching vacancies in niche disciplines often close faster than university-wide postings suggest.
Understand how J-1 fits into faculty hiring
Texas State uses J-1 Scholar status for visiting faculty and short-term teaching appointments. If your offer is for a visiting or exchange role, confirm with the Office of International Programs whether your J-1 carries a two-year home residency requirement, which affects future H-1B eligibility.
Request H-1B sponsorship language in your offer letter
Once you receive a conditional offer, ask HR to confirm H-1B sponsorship in writing before accepting. Texas State initiates the Labor Condition Application with DOL, and having the commitment documented protects your timeline if internal approvals are delayed.
Use Migrate Mate to find Teaching roles open to sponsorship
Not all Teaching postings at Texas State explicitly state visa sponsorship. Browse Teaching positions at Texas State University on Migrate Mate to filter specifically for roles where sponsorship is confirmed, so you're not guessing from a generic job listing.
Plan your start date around USCIS cap and premium processing
H-1B cap-subject Teaching hires must align with the October 1 fiscal year start. If your offer falls outside the cap-exempt window, work with Texas State's international office to determine whether premium processing is available to protect your intended start date.

Find Teaching at Texas State University JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Texas State University sponsor H-1B visas for Teaching roles?
Yes, Texas State University sponsors H-1B visas for qualifying Teaching positions, including tenure-track faculty and full-time lecturer roles. The university's Office of International Programs coordinates the petition process with HR. As a public university, Texas State is also cap-exempt for H-1B purposes, meaning sponsorship is not limited to the annual April lottery window.
How do I apply for Teaching jobs at Texas State University?
Applications for Teaching roles at Texas State are submitted through the university's Workday portal. You'll need a curriculum vitae, cover letter, teaching statement, and transcripts. For positions requiring visa sponsorship, indicate your work authorization status in the application. Migrate Mate also lists Teaching openings at Texas State where sponsorship is confirmed, which helps you prioritize roles before applying directly.
Which visa types are commonly used for Teaching roles at Texas State University?
Texas State sponsors H-1B visas for most full-time Teaching hires and uses J-1 Scholar status for visiting faculty and short-term teaching appointments. F-1 OPT and CPT are available for graduate teaching assistants still completing degrees. TN classification applies to Canadian and Mexican nationals in eligible teaching disciplines. Permanent residency sponsorship through EB-2 or EB-3 is also available for established faculty.
What qualifications are expected for Teaching positions at Texas State University?
Most Teaching roles require a terminal degree in the relevant discipline, typically a Ph.D. or equivalent. Lecturer and instructor positions may accept a master's degree with substantial professional experience. For H-1B sponsorship, your degree must directly relate to the teaching field. Foreign credentials need evaluation by a NACES-approved agency to confirm U.S. equivalency before HR can proceed with a visa petition.
How do I navigate the timeline for visa sponsorship after receiving a Teaching offer?
Once Texas State extends a conditional offer, the sponsorship process begins with a Labor Condition Application filed with DOL, which takes seven to ten business days under standard processing. The H-1B petition follows with USCIS. Because Texas State is cap-exempt as a university, petitions can be filed year-round, but plan for at least three to four months between offer and an approved start date without premium processing.
