Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Controls Technician Jobs at Thermo Fisher Scientific Jobs
Highlight PLC and SCADA Certifications Upfront
Thermo Fisher's manufacturing sites run Rockwell, Siemens, and Wonderware systems. Listing specific platform certifications on your resume signals you can contribute immediately, which strengthens the business necessity case your employer needs for H-1B specialty occupation documentation.
Target Bioproduction and Pharma Manufacturing Sites
Thermo Fisher's biologics and pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities generate the heaviest demand for Controls Technicians. Filtering your search by sites in cities like Grand Island, Greenville, or Logan puts you in front of hiring managers with active sponsorship pipelines.
Use Migrate Mate to Filter Verified Sponsoring Roles
Not every Controls Technician posting at Thermo Fisher includes sponsorship language. Use Migrate Mate to surface only the roles where Thermo Fisher has an active sponsorship track record, so you're not applying blind and waiting weeks for a rejection.
Align Your OPT Start Date with Site Hiring Cycles
Thermo Fisher's production facilities often backfill Controls roles on a rolling basis tied to manufacturing project timelines. Starting conversations with recruiters two to three months before your F-1 OPT begins gives you time to clear background checks before your authorization window opens.
Understand How TN Classification Applies to This Role
Canadian and Mexican nationals can qualify for TN status in the engineer category if the Controls Technician role requires a relevant engineering degree. Confirm the job description explicitly lists a degree requirement before your offer stage, since TN classification depends on DOL-defined qualifying occupations.
Request PERM Timeline Clarity Before Accepting an Offer
For EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship, Thermo Fisher must complete a PERM labor certification through DOL before filing your immigrant petition. Ask your recruiter directly whether the role is approved for PERM-based sponsorship, since not all Controls Technician positions are pre-cleared for this pathway.

Find Controls Technician at Thermo Fisher Scientific JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Thermo Fisher Scientific sponsor H-1B visas for Controls Technicians?
Yes, Thermo Fisher Scientific sponsors H-1B visas for Controls Technician roles where the position qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as electrical engineering, controls engineering, or a related discipline. The role's technical scope, particularly PLC programming, process automation, and instrumentation, typically supports that classification, but sponsorship eligibility can depend on how the specific job description is written at each site.
How do I apply for Controls Technician jobs at Thermo Fisher Scientific?
You can search and apply through Thermo Fisher Scientific's careers portal at thermofisher.com/careers. For job seekers who need visa sponsorship, Migrate Mate lets you browse Controls Technician openings at Thermo Fisher filtered by sponsorship history, so you can prioritize roles where sponsorship is a realistic outcome rather than an afterthought. Applying directly through the company portal after identifying strong matches is the most reliable path.
Which visa types does Thermo Fisher Scientific commonly use for Controls Technician roles?
Thermo Fisher sponsors across several categories for technical manufacturing roles. H-1B is the most common nonimmigrant route for degree-holding applicants. F-1 OPT and CPT are available for students currently enrolled or recently graduated. Canadian and Mexican nationals may qualify under TN status in the engineer category. For permanent residence, Thermo Fisher uses EB-2 and EB-3 sponsorship through the PERM labor certification process with the DOL.
What qualifications does Thermo Fisher Scientific expect for Controls Technician positions?
Most Controls Technician roles at Thermo Fisher require hands-on experience with industrial automation platforms, particularly Rockwell Automation (Allen-Bradley), Siemens, or similar PLC systems. A degree in electrical engineering, controls engineering, or a closely related field is typically required for visa sponsorship purposes. Experience in regulated manufacturing environments, including pharmaceutical, biotech, or food production, is a strong differentiator given the compliance demands of Thermo Fisher's production sites.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Controls Technician at Thermo Fisher Scientific?
Timeline depends on the visa category. H-1B filing happens once per year in April, with employment starting October 1 at the earliest, so timing your offer to align with the lottery cycle matters. OPT authorization from USCIS takes up to 90 days to process, so applying early is important. PERM-based Green Card sponsorship through DOL typically takes one to two years before reaching the I-140 petition stage, and priority date backlogs can extend the full timeline significantly for applicants from India.
