Align your stack with lab software domains
Thermo Fisher's software roles frequently support instruments, LIMS platforms, and clinical data pipelines. Highlighting experience with embedded systems, scientific data processing, or regulated software environments puts your profile ahead of generic backend candidates.
Target roles with clear degree requirements
H-1B approval depends on the role qualifying as a specialty occupation. Software Engineer postings that specify a computer science or engineering degree are stronger petition candidates than broadly scoped technology roles that list any technical bachelor's degree.
Search Migrate Mate to find open sponsorship-eligible roles
Not every Software Engineer listing at Thermo Fisher is open to sponsored candidates. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for visa-sponsoring postings, so you're applying to roles where international hiring is already part of the process.
Prepare for PERM before your H-1B is approved
If you're targeting a Green Card through EB-2 or EB-3, the PERM labor certification is filed with DOL and must demonstrate no qualified U.S. workers were displaced. Starting this conversation with your employer early, ideally before H-1B approval, avoids delays later.

Find Software Engineer at Thermo Fisher Scientific JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Thermo Fisher Scientific sponsor H-1B visas for Software Engineers?
Yes. Thermo Fisher Scientific sponsors H-1B visas for Software Engineers and has a consistent record of doing so across its science and research technology divisions. To maximize your chances, target roles that specify a computer science or engineering degree requirement, since those roles are more straightforward to classify as specialty occupations under USCIS standards.
How do I apply for Software Engineer jobs at Thermo Fisher Scientific?
Apply directly through the Thermo Fisher Scientific careers portal at thermofisher.com/careers. Before applying, use Migrate Mate to identify which open Software Engineer postings are flagged as visa-sponsorship eligible, so you avoid spending time on roles where international candidates are unlikely to be considered. Tailor your resume to highlight relevant scientific or enterprise software experience.
Which visa types does Thermo Fisher Scientific commonly use for Software Engineers?
Thermo Fisher sponsors H-1B visas most commonly for Software Engineers, along with Green Card pathways through EB-2 and EB-3 for longer-term employees. F-1 OPT and CPT are supported for students and recent graduates, and TN visas are available for eligible Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying software roles.
What qualifications does Thermo Fisher Scientific expect from Software Engineer candidates?
Most Software Engineer roles at Thermo Fisher require a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related technical field. Experience with enterprise-scale systems, scientific data platforms, or regulated software environments is frequently preferred. For senior roles, familiarity with LIMS, instrument software, or clinical research applications can differentiate your application in a competitive pool.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Software Engineer at Thermo Fisher Scientific?
Timeline depends on your current status. If you're on F-1 OPT, your employer needs to file an H-1B petition before April 1 for an October 1 start. Standard H-1B processing runs several months; premium processing through USCIS provides a faster adjudication window. Green Card timelines through PERM are longer and depend on your country of birth and DOL processing queues.
