Align your credentials to FDA-regulated environments
SGS evaluates Controls Technicians against ISO 17025 and FDA 21 CFR Part 11 compliance standards. Before applying, document any calibration or metrology work tied to regulated industries so your resume reflects the quality system context SGS clients require.
Target SGS labs near major medical device clusters
SGS concentrates medical device testing work near hubs like Minnesota, Southern California, and the Research Triangle. Filtering open Controls Technician postings by those locations puts you closer to teams with established sponsorship workflows and recurring international hiring needs.
Use Migrate Mate to surface active sponsorship openings
Not every Controls Technician posting at SGS signals active sponsorship readiness. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for SGS roles tied to verified visa sponsorship history, so you're prioritizing positions where international candidates have actually moved through the process.
Clarify your OPT or TN status early in conversations
If you're on F-1 OPT or qualifying for TN as a Canadian or Mexican national, raise your status in the initial recruiter screen. SGS technical teams are accustomed to both pathways, and early clarity prevents delays once an offer is being structured.
Understand the LCA filing step before your offer arrives
Before SGS can file your H-1B petition, your employer must certify a Labor Condition Application with the DOL confirming prevailing wage compliance. Knowing this step exists means you can ask informed questions about timeline once you're in the offer stage.
Prepare your degree equivalency documentation in advance
Controls Technician roles at SGS in medical devices often require demonstrating that your technical degree meets specialty occupation standards USCIS applies to H-1B petitions. A foreign credential evaluation from a NACES-member evaluator strengthens your petition and removes a common processing bottleneck.

Find Controls Technician at SGS JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does SGS sponsor H-1B visas for Controls Technicians?
Yes, SGS sponsors H-1B visas for Controls Technician roles, particularly within its medical device testing and calibration divisions. The process requires SGS to first file a Labor Condition Application with the DOL and then submit an H-1B petition to USCIS on your behalf. Because H-1B sponsorship involves employer-side costs and administrative steps, it helps to apply for roles where SGS has an active and recurring need for technical talent.
How do I apply for Controls Technician jobs at SGS?
You can apply directly through SGS's careers portal, where Controls Technician openings are listed by location and service division. For a faster way to identify positions with confirmed visa sponsorship history, browse SGS listings on Migrate Mate, which filters for roles where international candidates have previously been sponsored. Tailor your application to reflect experience with calibration, quality management systems, and any regulated industry work.
Which visa types does SGS commonly use for Controls Technician roles?
SGS sponsors Controls Technicians under several visa categories depending on your background and situation. H-1B is the most common path for long-term employment. F-1 OPT allows recent graduates to begin work while a longer-term petition is prepared. TN status is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying technical occupations. For permanent residency, SGS has used EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card pathways for technical staff in sustained roles.
What qualifications does SGS expect for a Controls Technician with visa sponsorship?
SGS typically looks for an associate degree or bachelor's degree in electronics, instrumentation, or a related engineering technology field, along with hands-on calibration experience. For medical device testing roles specifically, familiarity with ISO 17025 laboratory standards and FDA-regulated quality environments is a practical advantage. USCIS requires that sponsored roles meet specialty occupation criteria, so your degree field and job duties need to align clearly in your application materials.
How do I think about timing when pursuing a Controls Technician role at SGS with H-1B sponsorship?
H-1B petitions are subject to an annual cap with a lottery that opens in March for an October 1 start date. If you're on F-1 OPT, your 12-month period and any STEM extension need to cover the gap between your start date and when H-1B status becomes effective. Starting your SGS job search at least six to nine months before your current authorization expires gives your employer enough time to prepare the DOL and USCIS filings without rushing.
