Align your credentials with ISO standards
SGS medical device labs operate under ISO 17025 and ISO 13485 frameworks. Certifications or coursework referencing these standards signal readiness for regulated testing environments and strengthen your profile before you apply.
Target SGS postings mentioning biocompatibility or sterility
SGS divides its laboratory work by testing discipline. Roles involving biocompatibility, sterility, or packaging validation under FDA guidance are where specialist technicians get hired. Filtering for these terms surfaces the positions most likely to require your specific background.
Start OPT early if your degree is STEM-eligible
Life science and chemistry degrees typically qualify for the 24-month STEM OPT extension. Filing your OPT application well before your program ends gives you enough runway to land an offer and complete onboarding before your initial authorization expires.
Confirm E-Verify enrollment before your interview
SGS is a federal contractor and is enrolled in E-Verify, which is required for any employer filing an H-1B petition. Verifying this before your interview confirms the company can legally proceed with sponsorship without needing a waiver or workaround.
Use Migrate Mate to identify open Laboratory Technician roles
Sponsoring employers don't always flag visa support in job postings. Use Migrate Mate to filter SGS Laboratory Technician listings by visa type so you're only applying to roles where sponsorship has already been confirmed.
Request the PERM timeline early in offer negotiations
If you're targeting an EB-3 path, ask your SGS recruiter whether the role has been through PERM before or if a new prevailing wage determination is needed. DOL processing for PERM can run over a year, and starting that conversation at offer stage avoids delays later.

Find Laboratory Technician at SGS JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does SGS sponsor H-1B visas for Laboratory Technicians?
Yes, SGS sponsors H-1B visas for Laboratory Technician roles, particularly in its medical device testing divisions. Because SGS operates as a federal contractor and participates in E-Verify, it meets the baseline requirements to file H-1B petitions. Positions focused on regulated testing disciplines such as biocompatibility, sterility, or materials analysis are the most common sponsorship pathways within this function.
How do I apply for Laboratory Technician jobs at SGS?
Applications go through the SGS careers portal, where roles are listed by region and testing discipline. You can also browse open Laboratory Technician positions at SGS that include visa sponsorship through Migrate Mate, which filters listings by visa type so you can focus on roles where sponsorship has been confirmed rather than guessing from the job description alone.
Which visa types are commonly used for Laboratory Technician roles at SGS?
SGS uses H-1B, F-1 OPT (including the STEM extension), TN for Canadian and Mexican nationals, and employment-based Green Card pathways including EB-2 and EB-3 for Laboratory Technician roles. The right category depends on your nationality, degree field, and whether the role requires a specialty occupation determination. TN is typically the fastest path for qualified Canadian or Mexican nationals in scientific technician roles.
What qualifications does SGS expect for Laboratory Technician positions in medical devices?
Most Laboratory Technician roles at SGS in the medical device sector require an associate's or bachelor's degree in a life science, chemistry, or related technical field. Familiarity with ISO 17025 or ISO 13485 quality frameworks is a practical advantage. Experience with regulated testing environments, calibrated instrumentation, or documentation practices aligned with FDA requirements strengthens your candidacy beyond the formal degree requirement.
How long does the sponsorship process take for a Laboratory Technician role at SGS?
Timeline depends on visa type. OPT authorization through USCIS should be filed at least 90 days before your program end date. H-1B petitions are subject to the annual lottery with an October 1 start date, so timing your offer around the March registration window matters. EB-3 Green Card sponsorship through PERM involves a DOL prevailing wage determination and audit period that can extend beyond 18 months from initial filing.
