Align your credentials to FDA-regulated lab work
SGS Medical Devices technicians work in environments governed by FDA quality standards. Before applying, document any hands-on experience with testing equipment, calibration, or ISO 13485 procedures, these signal readiness for regulated lab environments and strengthen your visa petition.
Target SGS sites near FDA-registered facilities
SGS operates testing labs clustered near major medical device manufacturing hubs. Focusing your search on those specific locations increases your chance of finding openings with active sponsorship pipelines and faster internal approval for filing an H-1B or TN petition.
Clarify the specialty occupation case before applying
USCIS scrutinizes H-1B petitions for Technician titles closely. Ask the recruiter upfront whether the role requires a bachelor's degree as a minimum standard, since that's what establishes specialty occupation eligibility and determines whether H-1B sponsorship is viable for your specific position.
Use Migrate Mate to filter verified SGS Technician openings
Not every SGS Technician posting explicitly states visa sponsorship. Use Migrate Mate to surface roles at SGS that have a documented sponsorship history, so you're not spending time on applications that won't lead to a petition.
Understand how TN status applies to your background
Canadian and Mexican nationals with a qualifying science or engineering degree may be eligible for TN status for certain Technician roles at SGS. Unlike H-1B, TN requires no USCIS filing and no lottery, which can significantly shorten the time from offer to start date.
Confirm OPT STEM extension eligibility before your start date
If you're on F-1 OPT, verify that your degree field is on the DHS STEM designated degree program list and that SGS is enrolled in E-Verify, which is required to apply for a 24-month STEM OPT extension and bridge the gap to an H-1B cap filing.

Find Technician at SGS JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does SGS sponsor H-1B visas for Technicians?
Yes, SGS has sponsored H-1B visas for Technician roles in the Medical Devices sector. The key requirement is that the position qualifies as a specialty occupation under USCIS standards, meaning it normally requires at least a bachelor's degree in a specific technical field. Roles focused on regulated testing, calibration, or quality systems are more likely to meet that threshold than general lab support positions.
How do I apply for Technician jobs at SGS?
Applications go through SGS's careers portal, where you can search by role type and location. To find openings with confirmed sponsorship history, Migrate Mate filters SGS Technician postings by visa sponsorship track record, which saves time compared to manually reviewing each listing. When you apply, tailor your resume to reflect hands-on experience with regulated testing or inspection workflows relevant to Medical Devices.
Which visa types does SGS commonly use for Technician roles?
SGS sponsors H-1B visas for Technicians who meet the specialty occupation standard, and supports F-1 OPT for recent graduates during their post-completion work period. TN status is an option for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying technical roles. For longer-term pathways, SGS has also pursued EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card sponsorship for Technician employees transitioning to permanent residence.
What qualifications does SGS expect for Technician roles in Medical Devices?
Most SGS Technician roles in Medical Devices expect a degree in a relevant field such as biomedical engineering, chemistry, or a life science, combined with hands-on lab or testing experience. Familiarity with FDA regulations, ISO 13485, or Good Manufacturing Practices strengthens your application. Some positions also require specific equipment certifications or experience working in ISO-accredited testing environments.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Technician offer at SGS?
Timeline depends on visa type. TN status for Canadian nationals can be obtained at the border on the start date with no USCIS filing required. H-1B petitions filed under regular processing take several months after the April lottery selection, with an October 1 earliest start date. F-1 OPT authorization from USCIS currently takes up to 90 days, so you'll want to apply well before your program end date.
